Video: Chef Creates Eco Christmas Crib
Local chef Bryan Rebello has once again spread holiday cheer by creating an eco-friendly Christmas crib at his apartment in Pembroke.
Bryan Rebello, a pastry chef at the Huckleberry Restaurant at the Rosedon Hotel, devoted nearly a month to creating the intricate 12ft Nativity scene, a tradition he has maintained for the past four years.
The crib, made entirely from repurposed materials such as eggshells, foam boxes, cardboard, wood shavings, and dried tree branches, depicts Old Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
Prinol Dias, a pastry chef at Clarabell’s Restaurant at the Rosedon Hotel, said the annual project brings the housemates together, turning the creation of the crib into a shared Christmas celebration.
“Every year Bryan does the same thing, using materials you usually throw in the garbage,” Mr Dias told Bernews.
“All of the housemates get together to make small things for the crib – it’s a bonding experience.
“Ninety per cent of the crib is made by Bryan.”
The tradition of building Christmas cribs is a cherished custom in Mr Rebello and Mr Dias’s hometown of Vasai, Mumbai, India.
The eco-friendly masterpiece is proudly displayed in their living room and is open to locals to view during the Christmas season at 20 Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke.
