Shayla Cann And Elon Preparing For Season
Middle-distance runner Shayla Cann and her Elon University team-mates are preparing a busy indoor and outdoor season schedule.
Elon will host the Coastal Athletic Association Outdoor Championships at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex on May 15 and 16.
They start the indoor season with a series of tests in Virginia, opening at the Liberty Open on January 23 and 24.
The team will return to Lynchburg for the Brant Tolsma Elite Invitational at the end of this month before closing their regular indoor slate at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in mid-February.
The schedule also features two trips to Boston, where they will compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational followed by the CAA Indoor Championships on February 22 and 23.
The outdoor campaign gets underway on March 13 with the home-hosted Phoenix Invitational followed by two short trips to High Point for the Bob Davidson Team Challenge and VertKlasse Meeting, alongside a pair of visits to Durham for the Duke Invitational and Duke Twilight.
Cann is a key member of Phoenix’s distance team with top performances in the 800 and 4×400 metres relay team.
The Phoenix have been the dominant force in the conference recently, winning four of the past five CAA Outdoor Championships.
The NCAA East Preliminary Round is scheduled for Lexington, Kentucky, in May, while the season finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 10 to 13.
