Butterfield Mile To Feature Mascot Race

January 9, 2026 | 0 Comments

Spectators attending the Butterfield Mile on Front Street will have an added attraction on Friday [January 16], with a mascot race set to bring entertainment to the evening’s festivities.

The race will take place at 6.45pm, following a performance by the Royal Bermuda Regiment Band, and will feature a short dash of 200 metres along Front Street, starting at the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach and finishing at the Flag Pole.

Butterfield’s mascot, Vern the Butterfield Dragon, will be joined by a line-up of familiar characters from schools and organisations across the island, all competing in full costume.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.

The winning mascot will also earn a $1,000 donation for a charity, school or cause of their choice, courtesy of Butterfield.

Participating mascots include Vern the Butterfield Dragon, Sammy the Saltus Knight, the Warwick Academy Bear, the BHS Torch, Ben Twend the Convex Bear, Felix the Road Safety Turtle, the Somerset Primary Buzz Bee, the MSA Rambo, the Whitney Bull and the Berkeley Institute Panther.

Organisers have encouraged spectators to arrive early to enjoy the spectacle, which has become a popular and family-friendly addition to the Butterfield Mile programme.

Those interested in taking part or seeking further information are invited to confirm their participation by emailing heather.trianglechallenge@outlook.com.
