Lima 2027 Pan American Games Rescheduled
The Pan American Games in Lima have been rescheduled to run from July 23 to August 8, 2027.
A spokesperson said, “In a decision by the Panam Sports Executive Board and agreed upon with the Local Organizing Committee, the new date for the XX Pan American Games 2027 in Lima will be from July 23 to August 8, one week after the date originally set for the start of the continental sporting event.
“The Panam Sports delegation, led by its president, Neven Ilic, traveled to the Peruvian capital for a series of meetings, activities, and visits to sports venues to check on progress and supervise the work of the Local Organizing Committee for the XX Pan American Games Lima 2027.
“Following this first operational meeting between the Peruvian sports authorities and Panam Sports, and due to the busy calendar of international sporting events in 2027, the Panam Sports Executive Board decided to modify the date of the Games by one week from the original date [July 16 to August 1].
“The new date for the Pan American Games will be from Friday, July 23, with the opening ceremony, until Sunday, August 8, when the closing ceremony of the continent’s premier multisport event will take place.
“Panam Sports’ four-day visit to the city of Lima included several meetings with the Local Organizing Committee, visits to the Pan American Village, the National Sports Village [VIDENA], and the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex.”
“We are very happy and reassured after this visit. We were able to see firsthand how fantastic the sports venues and the Pan American Village are. The legacy of the 2019 Games has been spectacular. The sports venues are very well maintained and, most importantly, they have continued to host sporting events,” said Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.
“We see a team led by Local Organizing Committee President Sergio Ludeña with a lot of commitment and passion. I have no doubt that Lima 2027 will be a great and historic Games. Our goal is to improve on how incredible this celebration was in 2019,” added Ilic.
The spokesperson said, “After touring the sports venues, Panam Sports President Neven Ilic traveled to the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital to hold a meeting with the Constitutional President of the Republic of Peru, José Jerí.
“President Jerí has expressed his full support and the Peruvian government’s unconditional commitment to the Pan American Games, so we are very optimistic. Although the infrastructure is ready, there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of operations and logistics, so we must not relax and must work closely together for this, the most important sporting event on the continent,” concluded Neven Ilic.
The spokesperson said, “The XX Pan American Games in Lima in 2027 will bring together more than 7,000 athletes from 41 countries and will be the most important Olympic qualification event for Los Angeles 2028.”
