Football: Somerset Eagles Win Shield Trophy
Somerset Eagles secured the Shield Trophy for the third time in club history following a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Robin Hood. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of play.
Robin Hood took an early lead in the 31st minute when Sebastian Davis scored to make it 1-0. Somerset Eagles equalized in the 53rd minute through a goal from Nathan Rego. The Eagles then took the lead in the 65th minute when substitute Zaire Smith scored shortly after entering the match. Robin Hood leveled the score in the 80th minute with a goal from James Cooper, forcing the game into extra time.
After a scoreless 30 minutes of extra time, the match proceeded to penalties. Xahiv Deroza and Sebastian Madeiros missed early attempts for Robin Hood, while Nathan Rego and Zico Saltus-Seymour failed to convert for Somerset Eagles. With the shootout tied at 4-4 in sudden death, Nicholas Massa scored for the Eagles. Kwame Naylor then missed his attempt for Robin Hood to conclude the match.
