Boxer Nikki Bascome will follow in his late father’s footsteps when he competes in the Bermuda Motocross Association’s Celebrity Motocross Race Day at Southside Motocross Track tomorrow [February 22].

Bascome, who holds a professional record of 13 wins from 15 bouts, will join local celebrities including Minister Owen Darrell, Wayne Caines, Fotogenik, Fire Wayne, Nadanja, General Kaution and Jesse Seymour in the exhibition race.

The event, which begins at 12pm, will be staged as part of the association’s Triple Crown Series.

Bascome will race wearing the number of his father, Derrick “Briggs” Bascome, a talented motocross rider who died when the welterweight boxer was still a child.

“He was among the island’s pioneers in the sport of motocross,” Bascome told Bernews. “I’ll be wearing his racing number — 103.”

“It’s going to be a good time, and we’ll have a lot of fun racing against each other.

“I’ve never trained for motocross or anything like that, but I ride bikes and I’m looking forward to it.

“Hopefully people turn out and we have some good vibes.”
