Bermuda U-17 Top For Goals Conversion
The Bermuda Under-17 women’s team were ranked top of the goals conversion rate during round one of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers.
Bermuda finished runners-up to Puerto Rico in group A and have advanced as one of the two best second-placed teams to the Concacaf Championship in Mexico, which runs from March 21 to April 6.
Three teams will qualify for the Fifa Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
According to the Concacaf website, Bermuda had a 36 per cent goals conversion rate, with Barbados second [33 per cent] and Costa Rica third [31 per cent].
Goal conversion rate refers to how efficiently a team turns their shots into goals. It shows what proportion of attempted shots results in goals.
Minister Owen Darrell has congratulated the team on the success.
“Sport matters, and this is a proud moment for Bermuda, I had the privilege of attending all three home games and experienced the discipline and heart these young athletes displayed on the pitch,” he said.
“They represented our island with distinction, and their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
“The Government remains committed to supporting the development of our athletes as they continue to compete on the international stage.”
