Track & Field Athletes Compete At National Trials

The road to the Carifta Games continued at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium as the Bermuda National Athletics Association held its latest round of Qualifying Trials. Junior athletes returned to the National Sports Center to record times and distances for selection to the regional championships.

Sanchez Smith ran 9:27.70 in the Under-17 Men’s 3000 Meters, surpassing the qualifying standard of 9:58.00. Smith had already met the qualifying criteria in a previous meet.

Amara Samuels ran 12.38 seconds in the Under-17 Women’s 100 Meter Dash. The automatic qualifying standard is 12.35 seconds, which Samuels has previously surpassed.

Tatiana Sousa threw 36.31 meters [119 feet 1 inch] in the Under-20 Women’s Javelin Throw. The qualifying mark is 37.00 meters, which Sousa has already achieved in prior competition.
