Warwick Academy Win Middle School Races
Warwick Academy won their second Cross Country Championship in two days after winning the Middle School Cross Country Championships at the Arboretum.
A spokesperson said, “Warwick were crowned overall champions with a score of 165 points. Saltus Grammar School finished second with 197 while the Whitney Institute Middle School rounded out the top three with 496 points. Warwick Academy also win the overall girls title with 77 points. Saltus again finished second with 108 points with Bermuda High School scoring 126 to finish third. Warwick and Saltus both scored 88 points to share the overall boys title. Whitney finished third with 217 points.
“Warwick Academy’s Colette Durkin won the under 13 girls race comfortably in 13:25. Piper Howard from BHS finished second in 13:46 with Madeline Friend from Saltus finishing third in 14:07. Warwick Academy won the team division prize with 41 points. Iris Duda and Caroline Smatt joined Durkin in the top ten finishing in 4th and 8th respectively. Kierra Broadley-Samuels [6], Peggy Forster [9] and Charleigh Gilchrist [10] helped Saltus to score 42 which placed them in second place. BHS finished in third with 78 points. A pair of Sandys Middle School runners also finished in the top ten with Yara Muhammad finishing in 5th and Zaya Cann-Berkeley finishing in 7th .
“Sebastian Owen won the under 13 boys race in time of 12:28. The Warwick Academy runner was followed by a trio of Saltus runners with Adrian Myers claiming silver in 12:31, Elliot Simons bronze in 12:35 and Liam Horrobin in fourth in 12:42. The Saltus trio helped to lead their school to division honours with 37 points. Maxwell Williams [8] and Isaac Wookey [10] were instrumental in securing second place for Warwick Academy while Antione Whitter’s sixth place led The Whitney institute to a third place finish. Lucas Fereira from Dellwood Middle School had his schools only top ten finish of the day as he finished in 5th place. Shiloh Stevens finished in 8th and Leo Heyland in 9th to give Somersfield Academy a pair of top ten finishers.
“Warwick Academy placed four runners in the top ten to win the over 13 girls division. Elena Bortoli followed her brothers win yesterday in the senior meet with a win in 13:35. Harper Franklin from BHS finished in second in 14:42 with Bortoli’s teammate Lorin Roopra finishing in second in 14:44. Leslie Terceira [8] and Theodora West-Kraunz [10] from Warwick also finished in the top ten to secure their team win with 36 points. Harper and her teammates finished second with 48 points with Zoeey de los Santos [5] joining her in the top five. Saltus Grammar has two top ten finishers with Zara Bule [4] and Sydney Pethick [6]. Rounding out the top ten were a pair of Mount Saint Agnes Academy runners with Kyra Simmons finishing 7th and Phoenix Williams finishing 9th.
“Nicholas Gomez Caines put a halt to Warwick Academy’s winning streak when he cruised to victory in the Over 13 boys division. The Sandys Secondary Middle School runner powered his way to victory in 11:28. Saltus Grammar School’s Spencer Halderman finished in second with a time of 11:49. Halderman pipped Warwick Academy runner Dage Butterfield at the line by one second. Ethan Smith [5] and Caleb Mello [7] were also top ten finishers for Warwick Academy. That was enough to help their team with the team prize with 43 points. Ronan Davidge [8] and Xonti Burch [10] helped second place Saltus Grammar secure 51 points. Hasim Ming led Whitney to a third place team finish when he crossed the line in fourth place. Julian Caisey impressed in his sixth place finish for the Bermuda Institute. Somersfield’s Cairo Burgess finished the race in 9th place.”
