BCB Expands Youth Cricket Programs

The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] has announced the expansion of its free youth cricket programs, including the return of the Athene Pee Wee ‘Have-A-Go’ Cricket Program and a new in-school initiative.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Cricket Board expands youth cricket programs thanks to Athene’s support

“With Athene’s support, the Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] is expanding free youth cricket programs for Bermuda’s youngest players. The Athene Pee Wee ‘Have-A-Go’ Cricket Program is returning for a fourth year. BCB is also launching a new in-school program at Bermuda’s primary schools this year, called Pee Wee in Schools Program.

“Both programs are free for all participants, thanks to Athene’s support.”

CEO and General Counsel at Athene Life Re, Natasha Scotland Courcy said, “This is our fourth year supporting the ‘Have-A-Go’ Pee Wee Program and first year supporting the Pee Wee in Schools Program, Sport helps young players build skills on and off the field, and we look forward to seeing these programs’ impact this year.”

The spokesperson said, “The 2026 Athene Pee Wee ‘Have-A-Go’ Cricket Program began Feb. 22 and runs through March 22 at Bermuda College. This program is for girls and boys ages 5-7 to learn about cricket in a fun and supportive environment. Families can register online at cricketbermuda.com/pee-wee-cricket/.

“New this year, the Pee Wee Cricket in Schools Program brings cricket sessions into Bermuda’s primary schools. Certified coaches work alongside teachers to deliver ageappropriate lessons aimed at building confidence, teamwork and physical literacy.

BCB 1st Vice President and new Youth Chair Dave Horan said, ‘We greatly appreciate Athene’s support of our Pee Wee ‘Have-A-Go’ Cricket Program and the new in-school program. If we are to grow interest in cricket and the opportunities for our young people in their future, it starts with grassroots programs like these in our communities and in our schools.”

Executive Director Cal Blankendal said, “The BCB is delighted to expand our partnership with Athene, whose investment in youth development ensures that every child has access to positive, healthy experiences through cricket. The addition of the in-school program allows us to reach more young athletes islandwide and strengthen the foundation of the sport.”
