BCA Launches To Support Bermuda Caregivers
The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance [BCA] has officially launched with an aim to supportcaregivers across Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance [BCA] has officially launched as a registered charitable organization dedicated to supporting caregivers throughout Bermuda.
“The Alliance was established to address a growing need for structured support for individuals who provide care to seniors, persons living with disabilities, and others requiring daily assistance. While caregivers play a vital role in Bermuda’s health and social systems, many operate without consistent emotional support, training opportunities, or peer networks.
“Bermuda’s population is aging, with seniors representing one of the fastest-growing demographic groups on the island. As the demand for caregiving continues to increase, the need to support those providing care has become increasingly important.
“The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance aims to help fill this gap by providing caregiver support groups, educational workshops, resource sharing, and advocacy initiatives designed to strengthen the wellbeing of caregivers across the island.”
“Caregivers are an essential part of our community,” said Lisa D. M. James, Founder of the Bermuda Caregivers Alliance. “Yet many caregivers carry significant emotional and physical responsibilities while working in isolation. The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance was created to ensure caregivers have access to support, connection, and resources that recognize the important role they play in the lives of others.”
The spokesperson said, “BCA will focus on building a community of support for both family caregivers and professional caregivers, providing opportunities for education, peer connection, and collaboration with healthcare and community organizations.
“Maurice Foley, Deputy Chair of the Bermuda Caregivers Alliance, emphasized the importance of strengthening the support systems around those providing care.”
“Caregivers play a critical role in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” Foley said. “The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance represents an important step toward ensuring that caregivers themselves are supported through education, community connection, and greater recognition of the work they do.”
The spokesperson said, “As a registered Bermuda charity, the Alliance is committed to using donations and resources responsibly to develop initiatives that address the underlying challenges caregivers face, including burnout, emotional stress, and professional development needs.
“To begin building the caregiver community, the Bermuda Caregivers Alliance will host its first public meet-and-greet event, bringing together caregivers, community organizations, and members of the public to learn more about the Alliance and connect with others in the caregiving community. Details of the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Supporting caregivers ultimately strengthens families, communities, and the broader care system,” James added. “When caregivers are supported, everyone benefits.”
The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Caregivers Alliance is currently inviting caregivers, community organizations, and members of the public to join the growing caregiver community and learn more about upcoming initiatives.
