BCB Announces Early Youth Cricket Sessions
The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] has announced free early training sessions for youth cricketers aged 11 to 18 to prepare for the upcoming season.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Cricket Board Youth Development Committee has announced early preparation training sessions intended to help young hard ball cricketers be prepared to start the cricket season. The free sessions are open to all players, male and female, who are registered or considering playing cricket this season, regardless of club affiliation.
“The target age groups for the sessions will be players aged 11-14 and 15-18 years old. The sessions will be a combination of skill building activities and match play, and will be hosted between Shelly Bay field, Warwick Academy and Saltus.
“The schedule for the sessions is:
- Sunday March 15th all @ Warwick Academy – Orientation training session to meet players and view the playing abilities
- 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm [11-14 years old]
- 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm [15-18 years old]
- Sunday March 22nd @ two locations – Match Play or Training Session – dependent on player numbers
- 11:00 am – 4:00 pm @ Shelly Bay Field [15-18 years old]
- 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm @ Saltus – [11-14 years old]
- Sunday April 12th @ two locations – Match Play or Training Session – dependent on player numbers
- 11:00 am – 4:00 pm @ Shelly Bay Field [15-18 years old]
- 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm @ Warwick Academy [11-14 years old]
- Sunday May 3rd @ two locations – Match Play or Training Session – dependent on player numbers]
- 11:00 am – 4:00 pm @ Shelly Bay Field [15-18 years old]
- 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm @ Warwick Academy [11-14 years old]
“Players should be comfortable playing with a hard cricket ball, and have personal protective equipment required for batting – helmet, pads, gloves, thigh pad, Abdo guard (box), bat. A limited supply of protective equipment will be available for those who do not have protective equipment yet.
“Match play will be dependent on sufficient numbers, or will be adjusted to a training session and a shortened time.”
BCB Youth Development Committee chair David Horan commented, “We are excited to add another pre-season offering for our more experienced youth cricketers in the build up to the league season and I thank all involved in this new initiative.”
