Two Crew Members Transferred To Bermuda
Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre coordinated two separate medical evacuations in March after crew members aboard the M/V Flex Artemis and the M/V Basic Passion were diverted to Bermuda for medical treatment following serious abdominal pain and a fall-related injury, respectively.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre / RCC Bermuda received notification from ships agents Meyers, that the captain onboard the Marshall Islands Registered 114,380grt LNG Tanker Ship M/V Flex Aretemis, advising they wished to divert to Bermuda at best speed, to transfer a Filipino crew member who was suffering from serious abdominal pains.
“The vessel was on passage from Algeciras, Spain and was bound for Lake Charles, USA. The vessel arrived offshore in Bermuda Waters on Saturday 21st March at 11:45am, the 49-year-old Filipino Crew Member was safely transferred to Ordnance Island by the Pilot/Rescue Boat St George, and subsequently taken by ambulance to KEMH for medical treatment.”
In a separate statement about a separate incident, the spokesperson said: “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre / RCC Bermuda received notification from the US Coast Guard, RCC Norfolk. Indicating that the captain onboard the Liberian Registered 44,733grt Bulk Carrier M/V Basic Passion, wished to potentially divert to Bermuda at best speed, to transfer a Filipino crew member who had sustained injuries resulting from a fall onboard due to inclement weather while working on deck.
“The vessel was on passage from Rotterdam, Netherlands and was bound for Convent, Louisiana USA. The vessel arrived offshore in Bermuda Waters on Monday 23rd March at 11:30pm, whereby the 39-year-old Filipino Crew Member was safely transferred to Ordnance Island by the Pilot/Rescue Boat St George, and subsequently taken by ambulance to KEMH for medical treatment.”
