The City of Hamilton advised that “Cedar Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from the junction with Dundonald Street South to Victoria Street beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, for approximately one week to facilitate road resurfacing works.”

A spokesperson said, “Cedar Avenue has been prioritised as part of the City’s ongoing road resurfacing and infrastructure maintenance programme. During the closure, traffic entering the city via Cedar Avenue will be diverted at key junctions, using clearly marked signage.

“Motorists travelling into the city from Black Watch Pass will see signage at the Tennis Stadium traffic light junction directing them to take St. John’s Road. Vehicles may still proceed along Cedar Avenue but must turn either left onto Angle Street at the junction with Laffan Street [near the Muslim Community Centre] or right onto Elliott Street at Mount Saint Agnes. No traffic will be permitted beyond Elliott Street.

“Vehicles exiting the City via Cedar Avenue will also be diverted. At the junction of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street, traffic will only be permitted to travel east or west along Victoria Street. Motorists turning onto Cedar Avenue from Brunswick Street will be permitted to do so, but must turn right to travel north toward Black Watch Pass.

“Diversion signage and barriers will be in place throughout the area to guide motorists and prevent entry into the work zone. Public bus services will announce any temporary route adjustments, and all emergency services have been notified of the road closure and traffic changes.

“Should inclement weather interrupt the works, paving will pause and resume as soon as conditions allow.

“Maintaining the closure throughout the work period will allow contractors to complete the repairs safely and efficiently within the planned timeframe.

“The City of Hamilton apologises for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thanks the public for their patience as these essential road improvements are completed.”
