Dr Melissa Butler Joins Centennial Board
Centennial Bermuda Foundation announceD the appointment of Dr. Melissa Butler as a Director to its Board.
A spokesperson said, “In addition to her Board appointment, Dr. Butler will serve as Chair of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee, succeeding long‑serving Board Member and outgoing Committee Chair, Joy Pimental, who retires after many years of dedicated service. Centennial extends its sincere thanks to Ms. Pimental for her leadership, commitment, and significant contributions to the Foundation’s work. Dr. Butler, who previously served as Deputy Chair of the Committee, brings valuable experience from her time in that role to her new responsibilities.
“Dr. Butler currently serves as Director of Strategic Commissioning at Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB]. She is also the owner of The Evidence Space LLC, a Bermuda-based consultancy providing healthcare and research advisory services. Her professional work reflects a strong understanding of healthcare systems, evidence-based decision-making, and community impact.
“She has already made significant contributions to Centennial through her service on the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Review Committee since 2023, where her healthcare expertise and analytical approach have supported thoughtful and informed funding recommendations. In addition, Dr. Butler has worked closely with Centennial’s Steering Committee on the Foundation’s current strategic planning work, contributing to discussions focused on long-term impact, alignment, and sustainability.
“Her appointment as a Director, alongside her role as Chair of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee, reflects Centennial’s commitment to continuity, informed governance, and leadership drawn from within its committee structure. In these roles, Dr. Butler will support the Board in advancing Centennial’s mission and strengthening its response to Bermuda’s evolving community needs.
“Melissa shared that joining the Board is “an expansion of my commitment” to strong governance and to ensuring Centennial’s philanthropy remains rigorous and peoplecentred. As Chair of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee, she aims to “lead a fair, focused, and accountable process” that reflects both data and the real pressures residents and families face in Bermuda.”
Centennial Board Chair, Annarita Marion, welcomed Dr. Butler’s appointment, saying, “I am pleased to welcome Melissa to the Board and as Chair of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee. Her three years of service on the Committee, combined with her extensive healthcare knowledge and strategic leadership experience, will contribute meaningfully to Centennial’s continued work.”
A spokesperson added, “The names of all Board, Staff and Review Committee members are listed on Centennial’s website at www.centennial.bm/about.
“Centennial is Bermuda’s largest private philanthropic organisation and funds many nonprofit projects, initiatives, and post-secondary scholarships. Funding is offered in five focus areas: Community Health, Fundamental Needs, Cultural & Community Connections, Economic Participation, and Public Education, with review committees addressing the various focus areas.”
