Bermuda Eye SSL Gold Cup Qualifying Berth
Team Bermuda will attempt to secure a place in the second edition of the SSL Gold Cup when they compete in the Pan American qualifiers later this year.
The SSL Gold Cup, described as the “Football World Cup of Sailing”, will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 18 to December 13.
It features 66 national teams, with 40 qualifying for the Grand Final in Rio.
So far, 29 teams have qualified through the SSL Nations Ranking, while two more secured their places at the Asian qualifiers in Pattaya, Thailand.
The remaining nine places will be decided through a series of qualification events, including the Pan American qualifiers in Rio from November 12 to 15.
Bermuda will compete in group I alongside Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.
The island’s team enter the group ranked 47th in the SSL Nations Ranking and are the highest-ranked nation among the three teams.
Both Bermuda and Antigua and Barbuda previously reached the knockout stages of the SSL Gold Cup qualification rounds, racing in the same Round of 64 group and advancing to the Round of 32.
Their campaigns ended with Antigua and Barbuda finishing 26th overall and Bermuda 31st.
