Brooklyn Myers Breaks Flora Duffy’s Record
Brooklyn Myers broke a long-standing record set by Dame Flora Duffy in the girls’ under-16 3,000 metres at the Senior School Track and Field Championships at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
Representing Bermuda High School for Girls, Myers finished in 11min 19.2sec to surpass the previous mark of 11:32 established by Duffy while competing for Warwick Academy in 2004.
Myers has enjoyed a strong season, claiming victory in the under-16 division at the Senior School Cross-Country Championships last month and also placed third in the 17-and-under race at the Butterfield Mile in January.
Meanwhile, Sanchez Smith set a new record in the 3,000 in the under-16 boys’ division at the championships.
The Saltus Grammar student finished in 9:34, bettering the previous best of 9:39, set by Cameron Creighton in 2010.
Smith has qualified for the Carifta Games in Grenada next month.
