Sasha Fisher On Bermuda’s Title Triumph
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Sasha Fisher has reflected on Bermuda’s success after the island retained their team title at the Caribbean Pickleball Championship at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium at the weekend.
Bermuda’s team of Gavin Manders, Benjamin Jones, Fisher and Patricia Mills defeated the Cayman Islands 4-0 in an encounter interrupted several times by rain.
They won the best-of-three women’s and men’s doubles, as well as both mixed doubles matches. Bermuda dropped only four sets overall.
The island also beat the same opponents in last year’s final in Cayman.
Fisher, 39, said that team’s togetherness proved crucial against Cayman.
“We have a great team that works hard on and off the court to support each other,” Fisher, the team’s co-captain and coach, told Bernews.
“We really needed it when we faced Cayman in the final. They came out and played some of the best pickleball I’d seen them play all week.
“We really had to dig deep as a team. I’m proud of the effort of our players and the coaches — we were able to overcome a lot.
“We have a bit of a rivalry going with Cayman. We beat them by two points at last year’s championships.”
She also praised the efforts behind the scenes that helped Bermuda host the event.
“A huge congratulations to the Bermuda Pickleball Association for all the work they put in to make sure we could host the event,” Fisher said.
“It was amazing to bring in so many countries from the Caribbean.”

A high-performance head professional at Bosse in Natick, Massachusetts, Fisher said she was thrilled with the level of interest shown by the local community in the championship.
“It was great to showcase pickleball to the community and show it as a sport they can hopefully get involved in,” she added.
“It was so great to meet so many people in the community who were excited to get involved and watch the sport.”
