The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will mark the close of ‘Janet Fish: Place in Time’ on April 16 with a film premiere and Q&A with director Paul McGuire.

A spokesperson said, “Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invites the public to a special closing event to mark the end of the landmark exhibition Janet Fish: Place in Time. Join us on Wednesday, April 16, for a premiere film screening of Janet Fish: Catching Light, a short documentary that explores the life and art of celebrated American artist Janet Fish [1938-2025] who spent her formative years growing up on the island of Bermuda.

“The film takes the audience on a cinematic journey, combining breathtaking visuals with intimate interviews and beautiful representations of Janet Fish’s paintings. The film shares insights into Fish’s unique ability to capture light and the importance of reflection, time, and space in her work.”

The audience is invited into her process; her mastery of colour and movement in the ‘still’ life form. As interviewee Lindsay Wragga says, “She brought life into everything she touched. Her paintings made the objects more alive than they were without her…brighter than the sun.”

The spokesperson said, “Guests will have time to explore the exhibition before settling in for the 30-minute film screening, followed by a Q&A with the documentary’s director and producer, Paul McGuire.”

McGuire says, “It is a great honour to be premiering the film at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, on an island where Janet spent close to a decade of her teenage years, a place whose vibrant colours and amazing light inspired Janet’s unique creativity throughout her career.”

The spokesperson said, “On view since November 15, 2025, Janet Fish: Place in Time marks the first-ever exhibition of Fish’s work in Bermuda and presents a five-decade survey of her celebrated still life paintings, highlighting the profound influence Bermuda’s light, colour, and environment had on her artistic practice.

“The exhibition holds particular poignancy following the passing of Janet Fish in 2025. Masterworks is deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to honour Fish’s artistic practice and to have worked closely with the Janet Fish Foundation, the artist’s studio, and her dedicated team in bringing this historic exhibition to Bermuda.

“Following a highly successful exhibition run that welcomed many visitors, local and international, through the Museum’s doors, alongside a dynamic programme of events and workshops, this upcoming event marks the final public programme ahead of the exhibition’s closure on April 18, 2026. Highlights of the programme included Curated Conversations with co-curator Melissa Messina, a Floral Arranging workshop with Demco, and a range of educational workshops such as Paper Flower Making with Christina Wilson and Watercolour Technique with Naomi Bell.

A major catalogue designed by Avarie Graham and with essays by Messina and Thom was published by Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in conjunction with the exhibition and is available for purchase.

“Support for this exhibition is generously provided by individual and corporate sponsors, including Margot Perot and Family, Michael and Jane Neff, Tracy Gibbons, Carol Faries, Claudia Wardman, Scott Hunter and Janet Kemp, Jim and Debbie Butterfield, Isabelle Ramsay-Brackstone, as well as BWS-BOSS Ltd., Demco, and Rosewood Bermuda who have graciously extended their support for both the exhibition and the film premiere screening.
