Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward delivered welcoming remarks at the Bermuda Risk Summit’s Future Leaders Forum, encouraging students and young professionals to pursue careers in Bermuda’s risk and insurance sector.

A Government spokesperson said, “Earlier today [March 11], the Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, delivered welcoming remarks at the Future Leaders Forum during the Bermuda Risk Summit, encouraging students and young professionals to explore opportunities within Bermuda’s globally recognised risk and insurance sector.

“The forum, organised by the Bermuda Business Development Agency, brought together students, graduates, educators, and industry leaders to highlight career pathways within Bermuda’s international business sector.

“In his remarks, Minister Hayward underscored the global significance of Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance market and its importance to the island’s economy.”

“Bermuda plays a critical role in the world’s risk management ecosystem,” Minister Hayward said. “Our insurance and reinsurance sector provided more than $1 trillion in risk coverage across approximately 160 countries worldwide over the last decade, and it accounts for 29 per cent of Bermuda’s total economic activity.”

A Government spokesperson added, “The Minister noted that international business remains the island’s leading economic driver. Together with real estate and financial services, these sectors collectively account for roughly 60 per cent of Bermuda’s total economic output.

“Highlighting the importance of investing in Bermudian talent, Minister Hayward pointed to the growth in local participation within the sector.”

“There are currently more than 5,000 employees in the international business sector, and more than half are Bermudian,” the Minister said. “This reflects the deliberate efforts made by both industry and government to invest in developing the skills and capabilities of our people.”

A Government spokesperson added, “Minister Hayward also outlined the Government’s commitment to improving transparency around career opportunities through the development of a new national jobs platform. The platform will provide information on roles across the sector, including required qualifications, salary expectations, and potential career pathways.

“Encouraging students to make the most of the forum, the Minister emphasised the importance of networking and building relationships with industry professionals.”

“Opportunities often begin with a conversation,” Minister Hayward said. “Events like the Future Leaders Forum provide a valuable chance to connect with industry leaders and gain insight into careers that help shape Bermuda’s future.”

A Government spokesperson added, “Minister Hayward concluded by reaffirming the Government’s commitment to growing the economy and ensuring Bermudians are positioned to benefit from new opportunities.”

“Our priority is to expand Bermuda’s economy in a way that creates opportunities for Bermudians,” the Minister said. “By strengthening partnerships with industry and investing in our people, we can ensure the next generation is ready to lead Bermuda forward.”
