Nahki Wells A Doubt For Wembley Cup Final
Luton Town striker Nahki Wells is a doubt for the EFL Vertu Trophy final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday [April 12] after being forced off injured in their 3-0 win away to AFC Wimbledon on Monday.
The 35-year-old started the match but lasted only 16 minutes before going down and signalling he could not continue.
He briefly attempted to carry on before being replaced by Ali Al-Hamadi.
Wells had recently missed a draw with Stockport County due to a hamstring strain sustained in a win at Wycombe Wanderers, but manager Jack Wilshere said the latest issue was unrelated.
“No, it was his groin,” Wilshere said. “He felt it in the warm-up and there was a conversation about whether to start him or bring Ali in.
“Nahki felt confident enough, which is a positive, but he didn’t want to take the risk. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.”
Wells now faces a race to be fit for what would be his third appearance at Wembley, having previously featured there for Bradford City and Huddersfield Town.
