BTOA Announces New ‘Journi’ Taxi App
The Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association [BTOA] has announced the rollout and launch timeline for Journi, a new platform aimed at improving Bermuda’s transportation sector.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association [BTOA] today announced the operational rollout and official launch timeline for Journi, a locally owned and governed managed mobility platform designed to enhance Bermuda’s transportation sector through professionalism, transparency, and regulatory alignment.
“Following the formal establishment of Journi Ltd, BTOA is advancing a structured, four-stage implementation plan to ensure a measured and sustainable introduction of the platform across the island. The phased approach is designed to provide clarity to licensed taxi operators while ensuring that customers, partners, and regulators understand how Journi will operate within Bermuda’s transport framework.
“Journi Ltd is wholly owned by BTOA, with no external investors or private shareholders. Governance is retained within the local taxi industry, ensuring that decision-making reflects the realities of licensed owners and operators. This ownership model reinforces alignment with regulated taxi rates, responsible local data management, and operational standards shaped by industry professionals.
“Phase One: Operational Activation [April 1, 2026]
“The first phase marks the formal activation of Journi Ltd. During this stage, internal systems and operational frameworks are being finalised, including dispatch protocols, compliance procedures, and support structures. We’re refining platform testing, escalation pathways, and service standards to ensure we’re ready before public-facing activity.
“Phase Two: Driver Onboarding [April 1-15, 2026]
“Driver onboarding will commence mid-April, focusing on structured training and vetting of licensed operators. This phase focuses on technical skills and professional alignment, introducing drivers to platform workflows, dispatch coordination, and service expectations. Journi’s model prioritises fairness, regulated pricing, and live oversight, ensuring consistent service delivery and protection of driver earnings.
“Phase Three: Business and Partner Engagement [May 1, 2026]
“Public-facing operations will begin with the onboarding of corporate clients, hospitality partners, and event coordinators. This phase will prioritise education and integration, offering demonstrations, onboarding support, and operational insights to partners preparing for peak season demand. Early access registration is available at Journi.bm for businesses and customers seeking advanced onboarding.
“Phase Four: Official Launch [May 15, 2026]
“Journi will officially launch island-wide on May 15, introducing a fully operational managed mobility platform. The launch will be supported by public education initiatives and targeted marketing, while maintaining a focus on reliability and service standards.
“At launch, customers can expect transparent pricing aligned with regulated taxi rates, service delivered exclusively by licensed Bermudian drivers, and real-time oversight supported by live dispatch. The platform is designed to provide accountability, consistency, and a high standard of service for both residents and visitors.
“For drivers, Journi establishes a structured system that supports equitable job distribution, reinforces professional standards, and provides operational oversight without reliance on algorithmic pricing models.
“BTOA emphasises that Journi is not intended to disrupt Bermuda’s transport ecosystem, but to strengthen it through local ownership, regulatory partnership, and a commitment to long-term sustainability. Licensed taxi operators are encouraged to participate in the onboarding process, while businesses, hospitality providers, and event organisers are invited to explore early access opportunities.”

Memory might be a little fuzzy here, but didn’t the BTOA announce this last year, or perhaps it was the year before?
