Nahki Wells Hoping To Be Fit For Final
Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere will make a late decision on the fitness of Nahki Wells ahead of tomorrow’s [April 12] EFL Vertu Trophy final against Stockport County at Wembley Stadium.
Wells, 35, started Monday’s 3-0 League One win away to AFC Wimbledon but was forced off after 16 minutes with a groin injury.
Wilshere said he would wait until today before making a final call.
Speaking this yesterday, the manager told Luton Today: “Nahki felt something before the game and he was adamant that he wanted to give it a go and try, bu he then obviously couldn’t after 15 minutes.
“It wasn’t as bad as we expected, he hasn’t trained much this week, so we’ll have to make a decision around him tomorrow, but potentially he could be available.”
The striker’s fitness is a concern for Luton, with the final at Wembley and a push for the play-offs also at stake.
“We’ll weigh that up. I’ll speak to Chris [Phillips, head of physiotherapy] and the guys about that, what they think, how long they think he can get through,” Wilshere added.
“It might be one where he’s on the bench and then comes on, we’ll have to make that decision tomorrow.”
