Newton Leads Cedarberry Bowl Second Round

Arman Newton took a five-stroke lead in the 16-18 Blue Championship Division as the third annual Talcott Cedarberry Bowl moved to Five Forts Golf Course for its second round on Saturday.

The East End course presented challenging conditions, including high winds, for the island’s junior golfers.

16-18 Blue Championship Division

Newton moved to the top of the leaderboard after shooting a 6-over-par 68. His round included two birdies and nine pars, bringing his tournament total to 6-over par.

Overnight co-leader Oliver Betschart fell to second place at 11-over par overall after carding an 11-over-par 83. Johnny Bart sits in third place at 16-over par following a second-round 70.

14-15 Boys and Girls White Championship Division

Antonio Fortuna and Charlie Hopkin moved into a tie for the lead in the 14-15 division, with both players sitting at 21-over par for the tournament. Both golfers recorded rounds of 11-over-par 73 on Saturday.

Hopkin’s second round featured two birdies and eight pars, while Fortuna recorded seven pars. Previous leader Lachlan Soutter dropped to third place at 30-over par after posting an 83.

12-13 Red Championship Division

Lewis MacFarlane established a commanding lead in the 12-13 age group. MacFarlane shot a 6-over-par 68, including two birdies and 10 pars, to bring his total to 11-over par.

Austin Frank is in second place at 33-over par. Hugo Adams and Maxence Garnier are tied for third place as the tournament moves toward its final stages.
