Philharmonic “Springtime In Paris” Concert
The Bermuda Philharmonic will present the concert “Springtime in Paris” on Sunday, April 19, at the Earl Cameron Theatre, City Hall, under conductor Kate Kayaian.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Philharmonic will present ‘Springtime in Paris,’ an inspiring afternoon of orchestral music on Sunday, April 19th at 4:00 PM at the Earl Cameron Theater, City Hall. Conducted by Kate Kayaian, the concert marks a special return to City Hall – the orchestra’s first performance in this venue in recent years – and celebrates both beloved repertoire and the next generation of Bermudian musicians.
“The Bermuda Philharmonic Society [BPS] brings together the island’s professional classical musicians, advanced adult amateurs, and top high school and college-aged performers, creating a dynamic and uniquely collaborative ensemble that reflects the full breadth of Bermuda’s musical community.
“The program evokes the color and charm of Paris in spring, featuring:
- Offenbach: Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld
- Mozart: Horn Concerto No. 3 featuring Gabrielle Henderson, French horn
- Gershwin: An American in Paris
- Bach: Violin Concerto in E Major featuring JitHom Liew, violin
- Saint-Saëns: Danse Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah
“A highlight of the concert is the appearance of two outstanding young soloists, co-winners of the 2026 BPS Young Artists Concerto Competition – An initiative launched in 2024 to reward excellence and spotlight the remarkable depth of Bermuda’s youth music scene.
“Gabrielle Henderson, a homeschooled high school junior, began playing the French horn at age 11. She is a student of Kent Hayward at the Bermuda School of Music and brings a broad musical background, including over a decade of piano study. Known for her curiosity and wide-ranging musical interests – from Debussy to film scores – Gabrielle combines discipline with a genuine love of music-making.
“JitHom Liew, age 13, has lived in Bermuda since early childhood and began violin at age 4. Under the guidance of his teacher, Jyrki Pietilä, he has developed into a thoughtful and expressive performer, praised for his musical insight, work ethic, and natural stage presence. His joy in sharing music with others is at the heart of his artistry.
“The Young Artists Concerto Competition also includes a composition category, further supporting Bermuda’s emerging creative voices. This year’s winner, Lilia Matcham, will have her work for piano and violin performed at a Bermuda Philharmonic chamber music concert this fall.
“From the exuberance of Offenbach to the jazz-infused energy of Gershwin and the dramatic intensity of Saint-Saëns, Springtime in Paris promises an engaging and uplifting concert experience – one that celebrates both timeless music and the vibrant future of Bermuda’s arts community.
