Somerset Gas Station Robbed At Gunpoint

May 5, 2010

In what can only be described as a horrific night, just before 9pm tonight [May 5], two young men robbed the Boaz Island Shell gas station in Somerset at gunpoint.

This incident came only an hour before a man was fatally shot at the other end of the island.

The police say that that two men entered the gas station, one brandishing what appeared to be a gun, and the other wielding a kinife. They stole a quantity of cash before escaping. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the staff.

The suspects are described as:

  • Brown skinned
  • 5’7” tall
  • Slim build
  • One wearing a tan coloured long sleeve shirt and red pants
  • One wearing a black long sleeve T-shirt and black pants
  • Both suspects are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.

Inquiries into this incident are underway and Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Boaz Island service station has a similar experience before, with the incident ending quite well. In November 2009 a would-be robber with a machete burst into the gas station and attempted to demand money. The employee grabbed a fishing knife and chased the suspect away.
