Bermudian writer Dejon Simons has entered an online writing contest in which the winners receive a “chance to hit the road in style”, as the website is giving away 80 free nights in any of Fairmont’s dozens of eligible luxury hotels all over the world. The selection procedure involves online voting, so we are asking our readers to help the cause!
Dejon’s entry focuses on one of Bermuda’s best known attractions; Crystal Caves about which he writes “Closing my eyes I readjust to the newly dimmed light of the cave just as a cool damp breeze creates a tingling sensation along my body, generating a wave of small goosebumps to my spine.”
Now a graphic designer and burgeoning writer, Dejon is literally a walking miracle as after a bike crash at age 16, over 90% percent of his body was burned and he was not expected to live. Dejon spent over a year in hospital, including six months in a coma, and at one stage was given less than a 5% chance of survival. Dejon beat all the odds, and survived ending up with severe scars over the majority of his body, a subject which he is in the process of writing a book about.
