Man Arrested After Officer Injured

A police officer was injured on Friday night [Oct.14] when the Bermuda Police responded to a report of a domestic incident. Officers became aware that a man had an outstanding warrant and attempted to arrest the man, and an officer was injured when the man fled the scene in a car, striking the officer,

A police spokesperson said, “Around 9pm on Friday, October 14th police responded to a reported domestic incident at a St. Mary’s Road, Warwick residence. While at the scene, officers became aware that an outstanding warrant was in effect for one of the individuals involved, a 27 year old Warwick man. When the officers informed the Warwick man of the outstanding warrant and placed him under arrest, he fled on foot.”

“The escapee was later seen in the vicinity getting into a silver car which accelerated away. A police officer was standing in the path of the vehicle and despite jumping out of the way, was struck and injured as the car left the area. The officer was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of an arm injury and at last check was recovering on a general ward.”

“As a result, a search warrant was conducted at a Spice Berry Lane, Warwick residence around 7:45am Saturday, October 15th. The suspect was located in the home and arrested. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.”

Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may know the whereabouts of the vehicle used in the escape attempt, believed to be a silver Subaru J10. Anyone who may have seen this car or who may have any information about this matter is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
