Bermuda played host to eight lucky people who took part in the first annual Ultimate Bermuda Experience yesterday [Jan.17]. The eight were winners of an online sweepstakes held earlier by Now Energy Bars.
Inspired by Phil Keogan, producer and host of CBS’s The Amazing Race, the Ultimate Bermuda Experience took the group on a tour of different spots on the island to experience Bermuda’s sights and culture. The winners included Jennifer and Scott Saylor, Rita Singleton, Richard Elgin, Joy and Gary McDaniel, Andy Marr and his brother Kevin.
The event began at Camden at 7:00am under cold but clear weather conditions. The participants were welcomed by Premier Paula Cox and Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert as they arrived. The group left Camden and travelled to Flatt’s where they danced to local reggae music performed live by Fiyah Marshall.
Tucker’s Point was the next stop, where they kayaked around in the bay from the beach to a buoy. A few left wet as they splashed each other with the paddles. After making there way into the city of Hamilton, Phil Keogan and the winners met with waiting fans at Albuoy’s Point and then enjoyed a sit down breakfast at Bouchée.
Travelling to Waterlot Inn in Southampton, the group met Sea Venture Watersports manager Robert Pantry who fitted them with wet suits preparing to ride jet skis to 9 Beaches. After drying off and changing, they visited Dockyard Glassworks and The Bermuda Rum Cake Company within The Dockyard Company Ltd where they witnessed a glassblowing demonstration and had a rum cake and ginger beer eating competition.
The final stop of the day saw a presentation held at the Commissioner’s House where Mrs McDaniels was announced as the winner. The eight winners will remain on the Island for a few more days, relaxing and taking part in organised tours and activities.
Sponsors of the Ultimate Bermuda Experience include NOW Energy Bar, The Reefs Hotel & Club, The Que Agency, G.E.T. Limited, Hope4Life and Bermuda Ministry of National Security.
