Live Updates/Video: Lamb Foggo Protest March

November 22, 2013

[Updating] The planned protest march over the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre situation is set to get underway at 12pm today [Nov 22]. leaving from the BIU headquarters and heading to the House of Assembly where a petition with over 3,000 signatures will be presented.

Citing financial losses in the $100,000 to $350,000 per year range, the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] recently announced the St David’s medical facility would be closing.

Foggo Updates

The Opposition strenuously objected to this, with both St David’s MP Lovitta Foggo and Shadow Health Minister Zane DeSilva speaking out against the closure on multiple occasions.

Disputes also arose over the financial situation, with PLP saying the Health Minister has been “misleading” about the financial performance as it operated at a $100,000 a year surplus, while the Minister released a document indicating the facility would need an almost $1 million grant each year to cover shortfall.

Yesterday Health Minister Patricia Gordon Pamplin announced that she has directed the Bermuda Hospitals Board to keep the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre open until an “alternative plan is worked out,” which she anticipates will take no more than 6 months.

Today’s march is still set to happen, with the organisers still hoping for a permanent solution to the issue.

  1. Hmmmm says:

What will they close next ? That is nothing to do with this march..Looks like someone has turned this into a PLP march…PLP using people for their own agenda.

    • Terry says:

      Agree …..- Hmmmm

      • Mazumbo says:

Like de march against de Dr. was OBA/ubp

        • Hmmmm says:

Nobody Marched against a Dr, it was about sneaking in Uighers where there was no accountibility. NOW we are blacklisted by Chinese Govt… Great

          • haha says:

He’s retarded (dumbo), you don’t need to say anything more to him, he don’t listen…they can’t grasp d truth!

            • swing voter says:

never thought I’d stoop this low to use this term but yeah, Mazumbo = Sheeepie. He can’t think for himself, feed himself, depend on himself, make decision for himself….yup sheepie for sure

              • Lebron says:

“We want Zane, we want Zane”…seriously, NOONE wants Zane, this is pure PLP/BIU activism, nothing to do with a clinic closing.

                How cheap.

          • outkasted says:

People you still have your heads in the clouds if you think that Dr. Brown would let the Uighers in to Bermuda without the U.S. and U.K agreeing to this. But Brown had to seem to allow this and take one for the gipper. Which he did.

            • Sandy Bottom says:

The US wanted him to do it. The UK would have prevented it if they had known in advance. The only people that knew were Ewart, Colonel Handbag, and the crazy guy that hears voices and made a few hundred thousand dollars getting 4 Christians to visit.

    • Mazumbo says:

Wont be surprised if they tried to change de name of de Airport and de new Court House.

      • media says:

Name changes cost lots of money. Won’t be happening. The PLP loved naming places and renaming places. Money no object back then. Very different political climate now.

        • Mazumbo says:

It was more for self esteem, Historically in Bermuda names of buildings and streets did not reflect much on a certain segment of the community.

          • Hmmmm says:

So it was EGO driven…. Way to spend money, that we no longer have.

What Public places were named after people before hand? I’m trying to figure them out.

            • Hmmmmm says:

              Reid Street for Governor Reid
              Lefroy House for Governor Lefroy
              King Edward VII Memorial Hospital
              Victoria Street
              Victoria Park
              Duke of Clarence Street
              Duke of York Street
              A.P. Owen Road
              Cooper Ward
              Perry Ward
              Trimmingham Hill

              Harvey Road
              Duerden Lane
              Cockburn Road

Got the drift. Iguess these names are alright because……..you can fill in the blanks…..

              • Hmmmm says:

Some of those were to celebrate Royal events. Lots of good Bermuda Names from all sides of the fences there.

The wards at the hospital are usually named after people who make large donations making them possible.

Who was Frog Lane, Loyal Hill, Mission Lane, Burnt House Hill etc etc etc named after?

What is the history of Darrells Wharf? Is it Hodsons Ferry, not Hodgson’s?

              • Hmmmm says:

A bunch of them were to celebrate royal events !!!
The rest look like a good mix of Bermuda names from both side of the fence.
What is the History of Darrell’s Wharf ?
                Who were :
                Frog Lane
                Lighthouse Road
                Dockyard
                Clouds avenue
                Ballast Point
                Bermuda International Airport
                Step Mother’s Drive

                Dockyard
                Stardust Drive
First Avenue, second Avenue, Third Avenue
and all the hundreds of other named after

I suppose you have a problem with St. Georges and St Davids too ?

              • Cheryl Duerden says:

Excuse me, Duerden Lane is named after my great, great grandfather who was black!

          • Mazumbozo says:

            Moan moan moan.

      • Paradox says:

and that would be a bad thing..huh

      • Lebron says:

Good, the airport name is a joke.

      • Victor says:

Sir John Cox or Sir Henry Tucker International Airport would be far more appropriate than L F Wade; Sir John and Sir Henry negotiated successfully for the civilian use of the facility, and the resulting economic boom is history as they say. Mr. Wade though he never held ministerial office should perhaps have a school or court named after him as he was both a teacher and lawyer in his time – or perhaps an emergency facility as he dropped dead well before his time.

    • CBA says:

Yep, congrats. We now have a care centre open that hardly anybody uses and our island is paying for it. People will come to reality when they can’t afford groceries anymore and their jobs are all gone. Then they’ll realise that the OBA was doing what was in the interest of Bermuda.

    • confused says:

I wonder why the closing of CCU did not gather this kind of public outcry.. maybe because they are seniors anyway??? cant fight for themselves??? we will come to that point where we mayhave a family member who may become bedridden but we cant care for because of our day jobs….. shouldnt we march for ccu as well not to be closed, but instead be given attention to become a center of excellence for senior, disabled, and rehabilitative care? let’s face it… the octs of living in Bermuda just wont permit us to have a family member who will stay at home and care for our elderly parents… why PLP cant fight for this too? som staff members were rude? maybe because they were allowed to get away from it becaus ethat attention was never given to the department??? patients cant compaint anyhow….

Fighting for lamb foggo, on myown opinion, is lame…. if the problem is distance,…. somerset community should march as well to get their own urgent care clinic.. because it is the same distance they had to travel… if it is about closing of bridge, then why not just build a bridge sturdy enough to remain serviceable on hurricane days…. two birds in one stome…. we can also improve that sore in the eyes causeway…. in fact, we are able to forecast hurricane days before,,, may be then just set up temporary urgent care only ahead of forecated hurricane?

Or, can we get a statistics as to the cases being attended to… i recently had a conversation with a lady who only had HIP insurance…. she was having cough, but she said she was not able to go to emergency because there was no ride… she said now she ended up paying more in some random GP’s office…. whereas she pays less or none at all whenever she goes the ER…. on her understanding, ER is cheap so that’s where she will go oven on non-emergency cases… not knowing that the cost is actually higher… she just did not have to pay upfront…. situations like this can then eventually add to the bloated healthcare and insurance cost in Bermuda….

      • confused says:

… and just curious,,,, that small bridge just as you reach the st david’s round about coming from St. Georges,,,, does it not close as well on hurricane?? if that is the case,,,, st. georgians still wont have access then…… correct me if i am wrong

        • Ganja mon says:

Your referring to swing bridge in st geo by the round about at number 1 gate. It does not or has not closed as would the causeway because it is elevated above the ocean. When the wind is high it does not get affected by the after as what occurs on the causeway.

    • Eyes wide open says:

      Ok all…..
      This is a simple one.
The health minister got caught, plain and simple.
The Lamb-Foggo UCC is vital to us all.
Don’t worry the friends and family package will happen though!
On way or the other. Keep your eyes on this one.

  2. swing voter says:

yah, where were u bies when the indigent clinic was closed? What about the bull-dozing of the St. George Golf Club and closure of the golf course? what about the intentional economic starving and genocide of business in St. George? What about the overt neglect shown by your past and current MP while ‘the Godfather’ did whateva the hell he wanted to strip the Corporation of St. George of what wharf-age fees? Now ya’ll grew some balls to scratch alla sudden??? LOL at ya’ll #rachett#

  3. Malachi says:

    …lots of people not working!

  4. Mazumbo says:

There’s three sides to a story your side ,my side and de TRUTH.

    • Mike Hind says:

and your side is usually nothing to do with the TRUTH…

      • Nuffin but da Truth says:

STFU Mike Hind, you are nothing more than what we used to call a know it all…you know nothing about nothing,in fact, frankly Scarlett, you are nothing more than a troll using Bernews to try to advertise yourself!

        • Mike Hind says:

          Not true at all.

But you keep making personal attacks rather than addressing what I say. It really shows integrity.

          I wonder why you’re so worked up…

You say I know nothing about nothing, yet don’t show HOW I’m wrong about what I say.

          Am I touching a nerve?

        • Hmmmm says:

If he knows nothing about nothing, then he must know know everything. Are you are fan? …perhaps Mr Hind can sign a t-shirt or something.

      • Sage says:

Mike you need a life, no a woman or maybe a man. Forget all three and go crawl under a bridge troll boy.

        • Mike Hind says:

Nope. I have a very good life.

And I spend SOME of that life doing my best to make sure it gets better by debunking and exposing racists, hatemongers and demagogues who spread false propaganda and disgusting lies.

Personally, I think that’s a pretty good way to spend some of my time. Don’t you?

          Why all the hate?

          • Indepedent says:

            @Mike Hind,

If what you say is true, tell me about Bermuda’s history, and how one group was able to control the island for a long period of time?

I would love to hear your version of this island’s history. For some reason, I bet it’s a little different from what I would be told by my father, but would love to hear what you have to say.

            • Mike Hind says:

What? The whole thing? Are you mad?

Believe me, I know my country’s history. I know how one group was able to control the island for a long period of time.
I also disagreed with and fought against the tactics they used…

              Same fight happening now.

Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it.

              • Indepedent says:

                @ Mike Hind,

Nope, I’m not mad just curious.

Please explain how one group was able to control the island. As many times as I see you on here, you seem to have plenty of time to explain, so go right ahead.

Also, please explain how you helped to fight against the tactic’s they used as you put it.

I am a person who believes we can learn something from everyone we come into contact with in life.

                • mixitup says:

Mike are you there?????? *tree frogs*

                  • Mike Hind says:

So sorry I took a couple of hours off to get home and hang out with my family.
That’s my bad for not working on YOUR timeline.

Funny how you have a problem with me not responding instantly, yet when others do it, silence.

You’re working hard to try to denounce me.
                    I wonder why that is.

                    • mixitup says:

You denounce yourself, I’m just trying to help you see it pal.

                    • Mike Hind says:

That’s just plain nonsense. Try making sense.

                • Mike Hind says:

Shoot me an email and we can have that conversation. This isn’t the time nor the place.

          • mixitup says:

Mike Hind says “Nope. I have a very good life.”
When did this good life start Mike? in the past 11 months?

            • Mike Hind says:

Nope. But a valiant attempt at putting words in my mouth.

Try again. That one was a little pathetic.

              Try reality and truth.

  5. Hmmmm says:

About 70 to 100 people marching

  6. 1minute says:

Compromise – Keep Lamb Foggo open and close the Hamilton clinic on Victoria street.

They moved Education to Southside so now when my kid misplaces their bus pass, we have to go to Southside… Not good when you live in Sandys…

  7. Johnboy says:

Why are they marching to Parliament anyway? They should be marching to the Hospital Board who chose to close it down in the first place!!

The OBA persuaded/encouraged them to keep it open.

Hence, there should be praise for the OBA!

  8. The PLP still making Bermuda BROKE! These PLP supporters have had 2 marches on the OBA government already and they have NOT been in office for one year!
    800 mil gone missing
    golf course and hotel gone
    cruise ships have been stripped
    Police station went missing
Not one march! why none of you all didnt march then?! Why!? Because this whole dilemma is PLP political and thats why WE Bermudians find ourselves in the position WE are in now! Thanks PLP!

    • Mazumbo says:

      Well you should have marched!

      • tricks are for kids.... says:

Was a march called for then???????? Nope!!!!!!! But one was called to support this……..

    • Sage says:

How do you know they are all PLP supporters huh? Don’t you think some people are just tired of this OBA govt already. How do you think the OBA won the last election from PLP voters swinging over and plp voters not voting at all. If this keeps up next election the OBA will be a 1 term government. To many of you are drinking the red Kool aid now.

      • Mike Hind says:

Only if they believe the lies you and yours spread…

        • mixitup says:

you and yours? I can just see exactly what you look like MH… A typical.. By the way, someone a few scrolls up is waiting on your response to their question and YOUR statement..

          • Mike Hind says:

            A typical… what?

Why not finish that sentence? Hmmm?
Could it be that you know finishing it will expose you and your motivations and beliefs?

Interesting that you’re spending so much time and energy trying to make me look bad… while hiding your identity.

            Real brave.

          • Mike Hind says:

Silence. No surprises there. You are a joke.

  9. Joonya says:

Another day off for BIU members. Why they there anyway? Needed to rent-a-crowd Lovita?
Why the guy with the Obama t-shirt? Did the LFUCC have something to do with Obama’s website?

    • Mazumbo says:

Hey dip-stick ever heard of a lunch break.

      • Joonya says:

OK.. but why are they there and why did it start at BIU?
Dipstick?? Are you one of the Dukes of Hazzard?

        • tricks are for kids.... says:

If you have been following the talk shows or listening to the announcements or reading anything as it pertains to the march you would know that the march has NOTHING to do with the BIU…The organiser just felt that it would be a good place to meet and start the March…THIS was stated more thane once……

          • Blue Familiar says:

I wonder if it occurred to them that some of their supporters might find that start point offensive. Probably not, and for good reason.

          • Joonya says:

Duuuuhhh uhhhh okaaay… are you really that daft?

      • DarkSideofTheMoon says:

OBA supporters don’t believe people in the middle class or low income should have lunch breaks…

        • haha says:

ya dats what is…smh. you n dumbo are both slooooowwww

        • Mike Hind says:

Not true at all. Stop lying.

        • Blue Familiar says:

          Nice try.

Is presently an OBA supporter, believes everyone is entitled to a lunch break.

Why, exactly, I don’t have one is my own folly.

        • Sandy Bottom says:

I don’t think they should have 14 weeks sick plus 6 weeks vacation. Plus carry forward 100 days unused sick. That makes 40 weeks they can have off in a year.

Bunch of lazy gits if you ask me.

  10. Mike Hind says:

I wonder if this will be labeled a “lynch mob” as well…

    • Mazumbo says:

Historically wrong color for a lynch mob

      • Hmmmm says:

        racist !

A lynch mob is a lynch mob

      • Mike Hind says:

So it’s only a lynch mob when white people do it?

Or it was only a lynch mob because white people were in the crowd?

        • Mazumbo says:

Can you provide any documentation of a black lynch mob

          • Mike Hind says:

            I simply asked a question.

Your reply let everyone know where you stand.

          • kareem says:

Yes I can, PLP/BIU marches in the paper every other month.. there you have it, black lynch mob!

        • DarkSideofTheMoon says:

A lynch mob is a lynch mob, and since no one was lynched this was just a mob….

          • Mike Hind says:

So… same thing for the last one that was called a lynch mob?

            Cool.

          • Mazumbo says:

Hey ya boy drew first blood so um just waiting for EVIDENCE! LMAO

            • Mazumbozo says:

Making everything into a race issue is so last century. It is the reason PLP got to power, and also the reason they got out of power. Baseless arguments relying on one thing – race. Everyone grew tired of it. Except you obviously.

              • Mike Hind says:

WHAT? This? From YOU? Who brings up race (of course, with enough deniability to back pedal quickly because you don’t have the courage of your convictions) on a daily basis?

Seriously? You? The guy who tries to spread the message that people are morally inferior because of their forefathers? The guy who said that “it’s in the blood”?

The guy who brought up race in this conversation in the first place?

The guy who has nothing to say, other than baseless arguments relying on one thing – race?

                You’re ridiculous.

      • Lebron says:

Racist twat Mazumbo, seriously you should be ashamed, and banned.

    • Ostrichs says:

No it won’t because of the barricades used. Michael you are useless. With your sliver spoon outlook to life

      • Mike Hind says:

Another personal attack. You guys are out in force.
        I wonder why that is.

Is it sharks in the water? Or is it that you know that your position is so weak that you need to shut down anyone that brings up questions or points out things you don’t want pointed out.

And please explain my “silver spoon outlook to life”… Is that code for something? Or do you think you know me, personally?

If you do, why insult behind a pen name? Why not be a grown up and have some courage?

And are you saying that if the barricades weren’t there, it WOULD be a lynch mob?

  11. really... says:

The BUI seems to be some sort of “hire a crowd” any time the PLP wants throw a tantrum.

    • Terry says:

Because they get extended lunch hours covered by the collective lunch wagon agreement.
      Peace.

      • Islander says:

don’t forget extensive sick days which they have been allowed to carry over. What happened to 15 days sick leave and carrying over 5 days vacation carrying over holiday and some accumulate 60 days or more frikkin unbelievable

        • Sandy Bottom says:

It’s actually 14 weeks sick, and you can carry over 100 days. Plus your 6 weeks vacation. Altogether that’s 40 weeks that someone could get off, at full pay, in a year.

          40 frikkin unbelievable weeks.

    • die hard St. George's Fan says:

Bermuda you have to do what you have to do.But march for the right reasons like prices of food,Belco,Insurance etc going up.What you should be marching for you don’t.

      • tricks are for kids.... says:

Why don’t you organise the “March For The Right Reasons” just as this one was organised….I’m sure you would get lots of support….

    • DarkSideofTheMoon says:

It said that it started at the BIU. You are assuming it is BIU members….

  12. inna says:

    and this “march” accomplished?

  13. js says:

good job Bernews on the reporting and updating on the march

the Royal Gazette’s website doesn’t appear to be covering it or even mentioning it

looks like Marc Bean’s reply to the Throne Speech ramblings may have some credibility after all

  14. reality says:

What all you going to do when government has no money to pay your wages and pensions because you wanted to keep running things at a lost.We Bermudians get too caught up on the Race thing. We should have marched a long time ago when the country first started going downhill.

  15. GoD1st says:

Not even 10% of the populace that signed the petition showed up to the march. WOW!!!

    • tricks are for kids.... says:

maybe….Just maybe they are working at the moment…..Their signature are there though…….AND that shows their support……

      • tricks are for kids.... says:

        *signatures

      • Mike Hind says:

I wonder if they “understood what they were signing”…

        • Nuffin but da Truth says:

now you are inferring the people that signed didnt know what they were signing!

to quote your own words…This from you.

time to get off your soap box.

          • Mike Hind says:

No. I was quoting a former Premier to shed light on hypocrisy.

(And I’m pretty sure I’ve never said “Time to get off your soap box”… you might be confusing me with someone else…)

            • Nuffin but da Truth says:

to quote your own words…This from you.

              (you quoted that to Mazumbozo!).

and no,I wasnt confusing you with someone else.

              • Mike Hind says:

So… nothing about the actual point I was making?

              • Mike Hind says:

Wait. Are you calling me a hypocrite?
Wow… you couldn’t be more off the mark.

How am I a hypocrite? Hmm?

To quote myself from earlier: If you’re going to make a personal attack, try making one that actually applies.

          • Say Say Say says:

As long as they understand that something else will have to be cut instead. We can’t stamp our feet everytime there’s any cut back – or we’ll never get out of this horrible debt we are in. I do think its a shame that PLP politicized the whole thing and had a march anyway just to rustle things up. It also became a race thing too on the talk shows. Noty enough whites there apparently. Pathetic Leech Party still pulling the race card.

    • Joonya says:

If you cut your finger and are too lazy to drive to KEMH, why would you drive the same distance to go and “march”?

  16. Blue Familiar says:

As for Mr. DeSilva’s ‘should have been done right away’, he continues to show that he doesn’t understand the proper workings of a government. Nothing can be done ‘right away’ if it’s to be done the ‘right way’. While I disagree with the decision to keep the centre open, I believe the decision came in a timely manner.

  17. Investor says:

There will be no foreign investment if there is one inclination of the next govt being PLP.It will not matter to the govt,as they will continue on from the last 14 yrs.Get ready for higher interest rates on our debt, devaluation of our Bermuda dollar and no more travel. That is the price to pay for voting on emotion and without reasoning!

    • mixitup says:

Then go and invest somewhere where the people have NO say! Check ya later!

  18. Dreamer says:

Bring back the old regime,we need more licks!

  19. Unbelievebale says:

I wonder when Minister Gordon-Pamplin was booed and shouted over, did Zane and Lovitta ask people to show respect and let her finish her statement? Or any respect for that matter.

  20. senlaw says:

In the HoA this afternoon, Shadow Minister DeSilva insisted that the BHB received $4.9 million in grants from the PLP government to be used toward the UCC (to cover the projected deficiencies when the East End UCC was first conceived and built)….I sure hope this will be reflected in the BHB’s financial statements when they’re (finally) audited and released……

    • Family Man says:

During the Party peoples’ reign, what it was granted for and what it was spent on, are not necessarily the same thing.

  21. Hmmmmm says:

What a fun week of politics this has been. So, the big, bad, “we make tough decisions” government met “the people” and backed down. The Minister of Health has tied herself and her Cabinet into so many knots it’ll take months for them to get out from under her waffle. In the space of 14 days the decision was the BHB’s alone and the Minister could do nothing about it and by yesterday the Minister orders them to stay open. Classic political climbdown.Although according to the Gazette the facility was “saved” by the Government from the BHB. Maybe they think we’re all stupid and by not using the words “climbdown” or “U-turn” will make us think that’s not what this is.

Since it appears that the Minister will survive this encounter then it must be Jonathan Brewin’s head that will and should roll. This is a good lesson for the OBA though. Pat thought she could do a “Fahy on term limits” with this one and the people said no thanks. The question is, however, when will the OBA admit that Brewin’s obvious desire to reverse anything done when he was not the chairman is what got them into this mess.

The real beauty of this is the hilarity of regular, right-wing, pro-OBA bloggers defending this political fiasco by saying “at least we now have a government that listens”. Well, what happened to “this is a business decision; get over it”? I guess you too think we’re stupid.

Looking forward to a weekend of sanitized and softened media coverage of the whole thing but a toast to Minister Pat for surpassing Jet-gate for political entertainment.

    • inna says:

the government has no money sir, how on earth do you expect them to fund this facility?

this is akin to you using your credit cards for everyday purchases knowing that you dont have enough cash in the bank to pay for it later. its the same thing, YOU/THEY HAVE NO MONEY!!!! what more do you want the BHB to do? all they are going to do is come knocking to the government asking for money, which, guess what? they dont have either! jeesh this concept seems so hard for some bermudians to understand!

and its nothing about thinking anyone is stupid. without business, you would not enjoy that lovely lifestyle that both of us quite enjoy, one of these days and i fear sooner rather than later, Bermudians are going to be some unhappy poor people!!

    • Bermuda Male says:

Your comment makes me laugh and cry for Bermuda.

The financials provided are unaudited because the previous BHB Board and it’s Government overseers, like with so many quangos and the pension fund, failed to be financially accountable and transparent. They failed to ensure that these accounts were audited and transparent, just as is the case for your $2 billion underfunded pension funds and their four, yes four, qualified audits on the consolidated fund. Do you understand what it means to receive a qualified audit from an auditor?

The document yesterday, from the BHB, cited in several sections that the expenses for the year a $100k profit had not been fully accountable (again due the failure to ensure an annual audit had been undertaken) for via the various cost centers for the UCC. Do you understand the concept of a cost center? Thus, due to the failure of being audited, many expenses allocated to other cost centers have not yet been charged to the UCC. So when these expenses are actually allocated to the UCC’s income statement they will more than likely wipe away the so called “profit” that Mr. Desilva and Co keep on talking about. The saddest thing is that they know the exact same thing and continue to repeat the “net profit” line to the public. I mean why would the PLP claim that it was a profitable service for the government and then in the next breath offer cost cutting options? Does that make sense to you? It also should be noted that Mr. Desilva admitted that his cost reduction suggestions would have been considered if the PLP had trained power and the “UCC was on the agenda.”

The funny thing all of what I said above was in the report which was posted on the BHB website a few weeks ago. So no secret document as some continue to claim.

Then with the BHB you had the Chief of Staff and CFO placed on administrative leave and a suspect subsidiary wound up recently. That’s a whole other story.

But either way I find it funny that you want those particular individuals’ heads to roll as opposed to the individuals that failed to ensure financial accountability and transparency or at least the people that forecasted an annual Government grant would be required to ensure it broke even, but no grants apparently came to fruition.

But Bermuda Is another world sometimes I guess.

  22. campervan says:

A million bucks shortfall is nothing.
One past premier could run through that much in hotel rooms, limos, bodyguards and play boy mansions in a month easy.

  23. John says:

People are missing the point, this placed was closed as not making money and hospital needing to save money. How is it now going to stay open and run without doctors as previous articles state the doctors were made redundant….. There goes more cash paying the redundancy packages and hiring more doctors in a non profit making place sad very sad

  24. Dreamer says:

Thanks OBA,for doing what is right for the people.

  25. Realist says:

Get rid of all those overpaid executives at the BHB, and keep the Urgent Care Centre open.

    • Ringmaster says:

Dreamer and Realist need to know they can’t post from the same computer. Look at the avatar (face) on the right. Basic error.

      • Concerned Citizen says:

Don’t tell him/her, let them post under 3 different names(investor is the other). What it tells me is that you have a newbie Oba blogger who is sending multiple comments to garner support. I was told that the Oba has a cadre of bloggers who flood the blogs like this. To bad the newbie didn’t get the memo…..lmao!

        • Mike Hind says:

As opposed to the cadre of “bloggers” (they aren’t bloggers… they’re just commenters. Bloggers actually… you know… write blogs.) that the PLP have doing the same thing?
Amazing how that seems to be ok with you…

          • Concerned Citizen says:

Ok mike. You are the guy. Btw, are you in favour of the govt back tracking at “11:59pm”? Good or poor leadership in your opinion?

            • Mike Hind says:

I’d have rather they stuck to what they said they’d do, personally. Still haven’t figgered out why they went back on it.

Good subject change, by the way.

              Don’t think it went unnoticed…

  26. Unbelievebale says:

After today, I feel like the OBA is still in the Opposition.

  27. Alvin Williams says:

‘ The people united will never be defeated’ It took the forefathers of the
anti-Bermudian 0ne term OBA government; the former now defunct United Bermuda Party a long time to learn that lesson; Than came the labour struggle of 1981.
It has not been one year of OBA rule and the people have march on them twice.
One wonders if they see the writing on the wall? They certainly are showing that they don’t know the people of Bermuda. It is a mistake to judge our patience;our tolerance to be a sign of weakness. If you persist in creating laws and policies that are going to hurt our families; you will push us up against the wall which will create a push back that you will not like.

    • Mike Hind says:

      Another threat.

Mr. Williams, will you be addressing the lies you told about me the other day, or are we to take your silence on the issue as a tacit admission of guilt?

    • Unbelievebale says:

Unfortunate for you Mr. Williams, there is no money. Why can’t you understand that? Your PLP put us in this position so why don’t you have the strength to criticize your own party for this?

    • Sandy Bottom says:

More threats of violence from the racist. Classy.

      • Unbelievebale says:

You have no idea what the hell you’re even talking about. What violence?

        • Sandy Bottom says:

His last sentence. Learn to read, dumbass.

          • Unbelievebale says:

I thought you were talking about someone else. Normally I would agree with you.
Well that’s the BIU for you. Never really thinking anything through and just reacting on impulse.

            Al is no difference.

  28. Ringmaster says:

It was the BHB that closed the L FUCC (an interesting acronym) not the OBA but why worry about facts. The OBA listened and have forced the BHB to keep the facility open.
There is no comparable situation in the period 1998 to 2012. The so called concerned citizens who marched today were silent and absent when the indigent clinic was shut by the PLP. Why? Didn’t want to march against the PLP? Proves it is a political not medical issue.

    • Unbelievebale says:

Today was certainly political. The OBA needs to pull up its socks and start acting like a Govt and not some amateurs. The PLP is out to take this Govt from them at any cost. The PLP can’t stand the fact that a “non-labour” “non-black” party is the Govt. And I use those quotations because the PLP are painting the OBA as such. It’s all about power.

I’ll say it again – OBA…watch your back cuz these folks learned real well from the UBP playbook.

    • Concerned Citizen says:

Lol…….red kool aid for sale at ringmaster. 30 cents per gallon!

      • Sandy Bottom says:

Faced with facts and a well-articulated argument, you have no response.

        • Concerned Citizen says:

Are you referring to the Oba minister and cabinet? Thought so.

  29. Redman says:

The real pity here is this.

The Lamb Foggo UCC is hardly the Urgent Care Facility that the East End needs. The hypocrisy and clear politicising of this by Mrs. Foggo and the PLP is that they are asking for this centre to remain open as it is now which is a frankly glorified nose bleed, diagnostic & blood test facility.

Why hasn’t the call from Mrs. Foggo, Mr. DeSilva and those concerned with its closure not been arguing for it to become what is actually needed in the East End; an Emergency Care Facility with longer operating hours and REAL Emergency Care facilities and staff?

People should go the the BHB web site and look at what services are actually available there and the times that the place actually operates. It hardly gives one reason to feel any comfort unless you scrape your knee or feel unwell. You had better not get seriously ill as if you are fortunate enough to be ill during the sparse operating times its quite likely that there will be no Doctor on site anyway. If your illness or injury is acute they will have to send you to KEMH anyway. Lets not even mention if the causeway is closed particularly for long periods like a hurricane then you had better just call the undertakers.

Personally I am glad that it will remain open; even if it is for a few more months but if this facility is to be what is needed then the operating times and the scope of the services it provides needs to be addressed before someone dies because of the lack of services provided.

Sadly Mrs. Foggo & the PLP have led gullible people down the garden path yet again. The whole thing would be worthy of an episode on the Simpsons except it is too far fetched even for that show and surely even Homer wouldn’t fall for this. Sad Really sad.
