PLP’s Roban: “Which OBA Are We To Believe?

November 17, 2013

WALTER ROBANThe Progressive Labour Party said they are “mystified” by the One Bermuda Alliance “claiming that collaboration is needed while also excluding the Party from the Tripartite discussions.”

Last week, Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy, the Chairman of the Tripartite Economic Committee, oversaw a two-day Tripartite Economic and Labour Retreat which the Ministry said would involve close to 150 representatives from the Island’s business, hospitality and union sectors for the

Prior to the event, the Ministry said it was anticipated that representatives from the following organisations would be in attendance; the Bermuda Industrial Union, the Bermuda Union of Teachers, the Bermuda Public Services Union, Prison Officers Association, the Bermuda Police Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Bermuda Employers Council, the Bermuda Hotel Association, ABIC and ABIR.

Speaking this evening [Nov 17], Shadow Minister Walter Roban said, “Which OBA are we to believe? The OBA that sings songs of collaboration by day? Or the OBA that plays the blame game and deliberately excludes the PLP from critical discussions on the economy by night?”

Mr Roban added, “With no OBA plan for Bermudians, the PLP have freely offered a way forward that is real, attainable and puts Bermudians first.

“Rather than focus on points of agreement, the OBA continues to run from their broken promises and untruthful words while playing the blame game. Bermudians don’t need an OBA that talks out of both sides of their mouths. Bermudians need jobs.”

  1. Family Man says:

The PLP was their in the form of the BIU. They are one and the same. What’s your problem?

  2. Let's get real says:

Typical PLP move. Make sure nobody wants to even try to collaborate with you, then cry foul when they don’t.

The people of Bermuda should hate the PLP by now. They are determined to paint Bermuda’s saviors (yes, saviors) as the bad guys.

  3. Let's get real says:

I also love how they are trying the whole “two faced” criticism.

Two faced is when you say you want to help Bermuda… But spend ALL of your efforts on cheap, childish, smear campaigns.

  4. Lightning says:

The PLP bring nothing to the table so why invite them to have a spot at this table? Come on bud…

    • frank says:

the only way for this island to move forward is for both political groups to work togather or dissolve parlament
have a new election with no political parties

  5. Kangoocar says:

Woban, the more appropriate question to ask is, which Marc bean is speaking, the Jekyll or the Hide side of him?????

  6. Mike Hind says:

The irony of “Bud” Roban saying “which one” is laughable…

as are most of his claims.

  7. Rockfish#2 says:

It is interesting to note that the omission of the PLP was first mentioned by Chris Furbert a few days ago. Even though they were never on the list. Period.

Now we have Roban belatedly shouting from his “AMEN CORNER”

    Hilarious!!

  8. haha says:

why would they include you, you ruined the economy for 14 years lmfao…

  9. Mike Hind says:

It’s also interesting that the PLP are still on the “OBA SUCKS! WHERE ARE THE JOBS?” thing, considering the announcement of 420 new Bermudian hires last week.

Makes you wonder what, exactly, Mr. Roban is reading and who he’s listening to, dunnit?

    • Question says:

      Hind:

Those 420 new hires you mentioned technically were not new, were they?

We still have not had an explanation of the lost of jobs in relation to those hires – - which I believe to be important in the grand scheme of things.

      Q

      • Mike Hind says:

Here we go again with the semantics.

We’ve been over this. You left the conversation when I pointed out the error of your thinking. Odd, that, but not unexpected.

I know you don’t want to OBA to succeed, but 420 new hires is 420 new hires.

“…Bermudians need jobs.” he says. Well, there are 420 of them.

      • Suzie Quattro says:

They are 420 Bermudians who were unemployed and who now have jobs.

I know you want to twist around any way possible to attempt to find a negative side to that. But for the 420 people who got new jobs, it’s actually extremely good news.

  10. wolf says:

    The blame game, PLP?
I’m pretty positive that’s exactly what some of PLP have been doing.
Since before the OBA was in power, and even moreso now.

  11. Triangle Drifter says:

What is he babbling about this week? What plan has the PLP put forward? I listened to the PLPs reply to the Throne Speech. Well, I listened to as much as I could stomach. I heard a bunch of pie in the sky ‘this should be done’ & ‘that should be done’. I heard nothing of how any of this nice fluffy stuff would be paid for. More money falling from the sky I suppose. More Paulanomics.

Look where they got us. No Sir, better to be quiet & let folks think you a f..l than speak up & leave no doubt.

Leave the cleanup in the aisle of The House to the big boys & girls of the OBA. They don’t need those who created the mess getting in the way.

  12. Chit Chat says:

    Mr. Roban,

With all due respect, the PLP or OBA would not have to come up with a plan to move Bermuda forward if the PLP spent the last 13+ years selfishly pulling us back.

  13. Sandy Bottom says:

If the PLP wanted to be included in important decisions, perhaps Marc Bean should have accepted the OBA’s offer of a cabinet seat.

  14. Jim Bean says:

    This man is insane

    • Hmmmmmm says:

A propaganda merchant, with no factual basis……sounds like Betty Trump….interesting.

  15. Sparky says:

Every time the PLP open their mouth [mouff as Mr Bean says] they find their foot is in it !

  16. john doe says:

ALWAYS blaming oba for something Plp can neva admit the wrongs n greed that goes on in that party.

  17. john doe says:

People can talk bout the oba all they want the late Freddy wade n Dame lois brown Evans are turning in their graves looking down on how this Plp party ran this country.Oba all day

  18. Everett Outerbridge says:

No need to politicize this committee or the work of this committee by including the opposition. Focus and desired outcomes would have been lost if the opposition was included in this work. It would have become a battle of political agendas as opposed to moving the country forward and out this recession.

  19. Nuffin but da Truth says:

The Progressive Labour Party said they are “mystified”

SO THEY CAN TELL THE TRUTH SOMETIMES!

  20. swing voter says:

Reminds me of how a kid behaves badly while mommy shops for groceries in Market Place but wants mommy to buy candy at check out

  21. oba n plp full of s**** says:

Both partys are not for bermudian just foreign and there familys wake up and smell the coffee. Plp when they got in gun came in, when ubp was in they was only for white ppl and I am not throwing stones just speaking the truth, now oba they are for foreign and there own family. We need new partys that going to help bermudian and bermudian alone even tho you have to worry about foreign when they come bermuda, but not give them all the jobs.

    • Anon Ymous says:

Ok, so all of these jobs which you say not to give to foreigners, are we talking about the non-skilled positions or high-flying posts with the IB companies? I’m guessing you mean IB so just to clarify, these are jobs which come with the company, they’re not Bermudian posts which already exist here and are then ‘given away’ or taken from Bermudians – no IB company = no IB jobs. These companies have to qualify for the status of IB, which essentially means that they have no impact on the local market (i.e. they don’t compete with local business); all they are given is authority to conduct their overseas business from a Bermuda base and with that foreign funds are pumped into the Bda economy. Win-win, right?

  22. navin johnson says:

Bud Bud Bud not surprised that you would be “mystified”…you are the latest in the line of PLP talking drones to pop up with a comment…last week even Blakeney had a statement for the first time since 2012…lets see next we will have Robain? certainly not Derrick as he has had a cone of silence installed….and as far as not being included I believe that is call “turnabout”…you are out of power so sit back and relax and let the OBA actually do something that helps Bermuda…..

  23. He is an uneducated spin doctor, like most of his own political affiliates, he has no idea how to run a business or a country…

  24. Bermuda Male says:

Not too sure why the PLP is so eager to work with an organization they label as being demonic and full of puppets and red necks?

  25. bluebird says:

He is just like the democrats and Obama IT IS SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT.
You know it is that guy bush he is the one that did it to us.We could not have put ourselves in $5BILLION dollars of DEBT.

    • Independent says:

      @bluebird,

You can’t be serious lol. Please tell me you are joking. lol

  26. Heniken says:

Very first sentence “mystified” sums up the entire plp, they have lived in a mystified world for years and that has clouded the word reality. Hocus Pocus

  27. Just Stop says:

Let’s set the record straight. NO the PLP where not invited because this was not a political fourm. This was an attempt to bring the social partners together; Government,Unions and Employers,in an attempt to build relationships and offer information and teaching points to facilitate this. This used to take place in Geneva, when Bermuda would send a delegation to the ILO Conference; a practice I might add which was discontinued under the PLP Administration.

Rather then try to discredit what was done, why not command the efforts of the particpating parties. I was present and it was well worth my two days. Thank you to all of those responsible for hosting the event.

Bermuda, we are in a bad space. If we really want to move forward and grow as a country we need to work together. More events like this is what is needed.

Mr.Roban I am very dissapointed. I understand that you are now the Opposition, however, I am sure it’s not your mandate to disrupt or discredit any forward movement for Bermuda….. or is it?

I have listened to Marc Bean speak recently and it ws my thought that he was looking at future Bermuda and how we are going to get there. Is he aware of your attempts Mr. Roban to keep us in this BAD SPACE?

Mr. Roban just encourage more dialouge with the Social Partners where healthy working relationships can be forstered and solutions and/or reccomandations can be born, whether they are arranged by the OBA or the PLP.

Just stop with all the negativity!! We have enough around us! JUST STOP!

  28. godson says:

Whether we like it or not, they HAVE to work together for the better of BDA….simple…Neither Party has done all good or all bad….PLP did NOT ruin the country over 14 yrs…EB messed it up with his “look at the new us” mentality…He spent millions trying to “sell” Bermuda and it didn’t work…now SOME OBA hotshots are doing the same thing…and if it doesn’t work than they would have failed trying the same sh$t a different way…Like someone stated earlier they WILL have to either work together or OBA will get voted out as quick as they got voted in!!!!Then we will be back to where we started…The blame game!!!WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF ALL OF BDA PLEASE and LEAVE THE EGOS HOME!- peace

  29. godson says:

TO the PlP—stop looking for the “race card” the deck is old….TO the OBA—admit that you don’t know all of the answers….then you all can sit down like men and women and work together!!!

  30. Ex PLP voter says:

Please do not invite any former PLP ministers to economic forums, unless they agree to show us how not to run the finances of the country.

  31. Believer says:

Mr.Roban asks “which OBA should we believe?”
I say “Anyone ,as long as we do not believe what Mr.Roban says!”

  32. Really says:

    The failed minister squeaks,

  33. Victor says:

Show us where the money went, then we might believe you!
