18000 Customers Lose Power After Engine Fault
[Updated:] Some 18,000 customers woke up this holiday morning [Nov 11] to find they were out of power, after an engine fault triggered a load shed. BELCO moved into action, and power was restored a short while later.
A BELCO spokesperson said, “At approximately 8:25am, an engine fault triggered a load shed, which affected some 4000 customers on multiple circuits.
“The system is designed to shed load by shutting down circuits to protect itself. Control engineers in BELCO’s Operations Centre restored power to all circuits by approximately 8:45 am. Investigation of the event is ongoing.”
Update 11.39am: BELCO said the “early estimate by Dispatch was approximately 4,000 customers affected; the Control Engineer has confirmed that the total was actually about 18,000 customers affected.”

Thank you Belco for working fast! Much appreciated…
why do you crawl to belco!
It is so good to live in a country where things get fixed so quickly. Well done Belco – keep up the good work – and thanks Bernews for being on the ball with the latest and greatest.
Two words,”alternative energy”.
The only time you will see a reduction on your bill!
Tried calling Belco to report my outage and got a recorded message saying: ” the number you have called is not in service”. I called both of their numbers. I then called the Police who told me, they had been trying to call Belco to no avail and one of their stations had lost power. Needless to say, I became very concerned.
That’s why they are dubbed the lack’ a light company’. LOL!
First check to see if your neighbors power is off, if their power is off then you may have a problem at your house and you need to call Belco. If it’s the whole area Belcos system will see it, no need to call them.
Get ready for another hike in the cost of your electric bill… BELCO will justify its needed to purchase another second hand engine..
solar is the way.
What you going to do when there is no sun?
Is it going to drop out of the sky? Germany produces upto 40% of it’s electricity from Solar power and we have more sun than Germany.
Power cut’s and other dumb problems presented to the customers consistently yet your charging a whole lot of money
for disrupted, distorted electricity – rip off’s – the sad part is they know it’.
