Flora Duffy Reflects On XTERRA Australia Win
Bermuda’s Flora Duffy reflected on her recent win at the inaugural XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championship in Australia saying it was “mission accomplished.”
The two-time Olympian has had a great season thus far, winning the XTERRA South Africa Championship in February and also winning the XTERRA West Championship in Nevada last month.
She followed those two victories with a win in Australia, finishing the 1.5k swim, 28.2k mountain bike and 10k trail run course in a time of 2.33.07.
Duffy crossing the finish line:
In a recent post on her Tumblr blog, Duffy said: “The race was set in beautiful Callala Bay, a few hours outside of Sydney. I am not usually impressed with a beach [Bermuda has the best beaches in the world], but this beach didn’t disappoint. I had a strong swim exiting the first swim lap just behind Dan. There was a tough 100m beach run in between laps just to keep things honest.
“On to the bike I quickly passed Nicky Samuels, found my rhythm and continued to snake through the single track. It was a fun, fast, fairly technical course. It tested my skill level but I throughly enjoyed it.
Duffy on the podium:
Duffy added, “On to the run in first, with no idea how far ahead I was. I’m not really a fan of running off the front not knowing what is going on behind. Can make for a nerve racking 12kms.
“Turns out I had a 4 minute lead going onto the run, and ended up winning by 7 mins. I was pretty excited to cross the line in first. I came into this race wanting to win, and knowing I could, so to execute it just how I wanted meant a lot!”
