‘Crimson Kathryn’ Towed Into St Georges

July 19, 2014

Yesterday [July 17] Canadian-registered sailing yacht Crimson Kathryn, which had a broken engine, was towed into St Georges Harbour.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Canadian-registered sailing yacht Crimson Kathryn calls Bermuda Radio on VHF Ch16. The yacht has two persons onboard and is 35 nautical miles north of the Island.

“Her next port of call is Bermuda, but her engine is broken and she is making slow progress under sail into strong southerly winds. The vessel crew are fatigued, and request tow assistance to the island.

“Bermuda Radio advises the Crimson Kathryn that a commercial tow can be arranged, but not at the current range of the yacht. With this in mind the vessel proceeds to Bermuda under sail, and Bermuda Radio arranges for Bermuda Yacht Services Vessel Line One to rendezvous with the Crimson Kathryn at the Sea Buoy.

“At approximately 10:30pm Line One commences tow of the yacht into St Georges Harbour, and one hour later the Crimson Kathryn is safely alongside in St Georges Harbour.”
