Table Tennis Rec Center Opens For Business
SMASH! Table Tennis Recreation Center officially opened for business on August 4, 2014, bringing with it a slew of options for those looking to enjoy not only table tennis, but video games, board games, reading, and even DJing as well.
Located on the Lobby Floor, Suite 101, of the Commerce Building at 54 Reid Street in Hamilton, visitors need only enter the building, walk down the corridor, and stay to the left of the elevator in order to take part in the fun.
A 3,800 square foot venue that features seven Pro Grade tables and one table for training that features a robot that feeds balls for practice purposes, SMASH! also offers its patrons a video game room with two flat screen televisions, a Playstation 3, a Nintendo Wii U, an original Nintendo, and an XBox 360.
There are also board games and books for those looking for more relaxing entertainment, along with a DJ sound system for both DJ mentoring classes.
Keiva Durham of SMASH! said, “The response from the public so far has been excellent. SMASH! seems to have met a need of the local community and we couldn’t be happier.
“Our customers have expressed that they have been looking for a place to play and they really like our facility. One of the biggest surprises was that we had tourists visit on our second day of opening, and they have heard of us through word of mouth and Facebook.”
“We also offer private instruction for table tennis; Jaymo Durham, the owner, is a certified International Table Tennis Federation coach. The cost varies for members and non-members, ranging from $30 to $45 per lesson. There are also prices for blocks of training sessions.
“The on-site DJ mentoring offered at SMASH! is community centric. At our SMASH! summer camp, Brother Richie shows the children how to work the equipment and they have fun as they are learning. We will be doing private DJ lessons in the future, but for now the kids just have fun on the equipment.”
SMASH! offers different entry fees for different forms of play, starting at $5 per game for access to the video games room, followed by a $10 fee for the Smash n’ Dash package, allowing for one hour of play; for all day play, a $20 Smash ‘Em package is offered. For those planning to visit SMASH! regularly, they also offer monthly, quarterly, and annual memberships.
“We are excited about SMASH!, particularly as we have seen our young people take a liking to the sport of table tennis. SMASH! is a place where they can come, hang out, and have fun while their parents know they will be in a safe environment,” continued Ms. Durham.
“We will be running an after school care program when school resumes in September. We already have tutors in place to help the children with math and English homework.
“What we have learned since opening is that table tennis is enjoyable for everyone, including novices, elites, juniors, seniors, and all fitness and age levels in between. The sport fosters healthy competition, and also is a great bonding mechanism for young people and their mentors, parents, and guardians.”

Congratulations on your opening. Sounds smashing!
Awesome… Just plain awesome!!! Wishing you lot nothing but the best
Great Recreation sport to build ones inner confidence. Also to tie in the Dj’ing and video games will def benefit teens and young adults. FIFA must be king of games there.
Great Idea for corporate events!
Bro. Richie has been doing a fine job with getting the news out there…
Plenty positives in this venture…
Sounds like a great and promising venture.
Very cool.
GREAT JOB!!!!! This place is a Smash!!!!!!
This will be a fun venue! I frequented these sorts of spaces in London. If the owners are reading this, I suggest that effort is put into making this venue a night-time activity option, and maybe amping the atmosphere to have a bit more of a fun, vibe-like feel, and also encouraging it as a date-night venue, and maybe linking with area cafes/bars/restaurants to offer deals! all the best!
Thanks Akilah
The owners are looking to do exactly that. You should come by and check out our Club Smash nights on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm-midnight. We have live DJ’s and it is a definitely a place to hang out, play table tennis and enjoy the vibe that we have going.
Good luck!!
I love the bean bag chair! Will be back soon. =)
I challenge anyone to play. Name the time and date and I’ll open my box of chocolates on you…..

Hi are u wheelchair accessible (as flat as possible).
Hi wheelchair teen. Our building is semi-accessible. There are 2 stairs to get into our building and 4 stairs to get to our facility. Im sure if you need help getting into our facility, our staff would be able to help navigate the stairs.
Over time they should put 2-3 pool tables in there along with a dart board, dominoes tables, spade tournaments etccc… Im willing to assist if needed. I use to run a Rec centers in the States.
Thank you I heart 441. We will take those suggestions on board and see how they can be implemented.
If you have any other ideas please feel free to email us.
