Premier Dunkley said the meeting provided a chance for the two to discuss a wide range of matters, including Elbow Beach, Bermuda’s tourism product as well as Bermuda’s America’s Cup bid, adding that the Prince used the occasion to “reaffirm his family’s commitment to the Island and to Bermuda tourism.”

Premier Dunkley said, “This was my first time meeting HRH Prince Abdullah Bin Khaled Bin Sultan, and I was very impressed with his enthusiasm, energy and passion for Bermuda.

“Our discussions served as an opportunity to build upon, strengthen and further develop Bermuda’s existing relationship with the royal family. We had a very frank and productive conversation, where I thanked him for his commitment to Bermuda. It was also a useful opportunity to hear first hand some of the royal family’s intent for the Elbow Beach hotel.

“Elbow Beach is considered one of the world’s most breathtakingly beautiful properties, with a rich hospitality legacy.

“As the owners of Elbow Beach, HRH Prince Abdullah Bin Khaled Bin Sultan assured me that his family is committed to Bermuda, and equally dedicated to making the property a world class resort.”

  1. Tourism lover says:

Keep up the good work Premier Dunkley.
Hopefully we will get more investment in our wonderful tourism products!.

  2. Coffee says:

You shouldda Craiged him . Shoudda told him put ah casino on the property and free milk and cookies for the first one million customers . Dat wouldda rung his bells .
Did he thank you for the concessions ? Did you tell him about the referendum ? Did you tell him about how the deal fell through for the casino in St.George ? Did you tell how how much Hanbury is getting paid to bring tourist to Elba Beach ? Did you tell him about the oppurtunity to buy a privatized Gov. Dept.?

I ask more questions tomorrow !

    • HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

roflmao @ the phrase “You shouldda Craiged him” you win the internet for the day

  3. Human rights says:

Sure would be nice if they would sell that property to a Bermudian or someone else. It sickens me that we do business with people as backwards as the Saudis. This man’s family has an appalling record on women’s rights (can’t even drive), have zero religious tolerance, ban homosexuality, treat guest workers like slaves, amputate petty criminals’ limbs, and execute over 100 people a year. I don’t say this often, but get off this island.

  4. bluebird says:

Hay Naw…………do you miss the PLP/BIU yet ????????

    • Ian says:

Khaled bin Sultan bought the Elbow Beach under the PLPs tenure genius… Not to say it has ANYTHING to do with who is in government…

  5. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

just a thought…that young man has the ability to remove bdas deficit and put us in the black with 3 billion and not even blink an eye…oh well…

  6. What a waste of fffffffing film says:

The Prince came here for some R&R, not to meet with a Politician. What good work has Dunkley done since he’s been leader? All he does is take more photos then X Premier Cannonier! If the OBA called a election now who do you think we would be the next Government? Stop taking the people for granted Mike. We didn’t win by much. The clock is ticking and you need to stop smiling for the camera and get down to business Mike!

    • Skink says:

You are such a wanker “waste???”….. go find a hole to crawl under and start smiling for once!!! :)

    • I Have an Answer for Everything! says:

The two main character traits which Michael Dunkley sorely lacks are HONESTY and SOLID LEADERSHIP!

  7. Luis Suarez says:

All well and good, but when you sorting Elbow Beach out Prince Khaled? The main hotel is a ghost town, it’s a crying shame.

  8. Takbir Karriem Sharrieff says:

Tsk Tsk Tsk ….What a hate campaign ……spewing up their guts.Wonder if it had anything with the Prince being a Muslim and also a black man…….hmmmmmmm things that make you go….hmmmmmm.

  9. Terry says:

Rather have Bin Sultan own it and visit than Bin Ladin or ISIS.
    Shalom.

  10. more than enough says:

    Where’s your bermuda shorts?

    • I Have an Answer for Everything! says:

They all shrunk while in the wash.

  11. Shells says:

Omg.. first time I’ve ever seen the Premier not wearing Bermuda Shorts!! Didn’t recognize him!

  12. Ghetto Mentatlity says:

Here we go again with the attitude and postings from the ghetto mentality that got the PLP voted out. Your Bermudian people are educated and not stupid. We do want to have good lives and do want to move forward and that is why we voted, yup, even if it was very close the OBA in. Sick of the crazy a** postings and crazy A** visions……..get a Bermudian to buy the Elbow. I am sure it is possible but again this sale was done from our brothers and sistas at the PLP, not OBA/UBP or whatever you want to call them. Should have sent that loose canon Daniels with his peace pipe or maybe ya bowy Furbs from BIU, although you probably wouldn’t understand what the heck he said.

  13. Under Grounds Of National Security says:

Are you really hoping that Elbow Beach will comp a lion share of their rooms for the America’s Cup in the hope that other hotels will follow?

Yes, this royal family can afford to do it and much more. But, other than our national goodwill, precisely what are you offering on Bermuda’s behalf?

This is a very shrewdly strategic, honourable and powerful man. Can Bermuda afford to repay this kind gesture? And what is the equivalent price of payment, Mr Dunkley?
