Centre On Philanthropy Spring Community Day
For over seven years, the Centre on Philanthropy has facilitated ‘Community Days’ to inspire volunteerism in the community during Spring, Summer, Fall and the Allied World Family Community Day in June.
The Centre on Philanthropy’s Community Days give local charities the opportunity to submit a proposal for a volunteer project that can be completed in a day or half a day. The Centre on Philanthropy then recruits participation from companies and projects are chosen based on interest expressed by the employees.
This year saw a total of 38 employee volunteers join together, with pride and enthusiasm, to help and enhance the lives of people and organisations in need of assistance, on Friday, May 1st as a part of The Centre on Philanthropy’s Spring Community Day.
The teams ‘rolled up their sleeves’ and with their ‘can-do’ attitudes made a difference in our community.
Teams of volunteers from Argo Re provided much needed hands-on work for the Bermuda Zoological Society as they cleared a large section of Brazilian Pepper at Trunk Island and cleaned the Water Reservoir, vital for the fish tanks.
Bermuda Realty Company Ltd. employee volunteers put on their ‘kitchen hats and aprons’ and helped to cook, clean and deliver meals to 161 seniors and adults with Meals on Wheels.
Allison Garland of Meals on Wheels added, ‘We always welcome companies to come and volunteer at Meals on Wheels. It gives others an opportunity to experience what we do here and how necessary Meals on Wheels is within the Bermuda Community. I thank everyone at Bermuda Realty for sacrificing their time and energy to help us!’
“Our heartfelt thanks are extended to all of the volunteers, their companies and the charities for participating in The Centre on Philanthropy’s Spring Community Day and assisting us to ‘Make a Difference, Where the Difference Counts,” a spokesperson said.
