Premier Extends Support To Event Participants
Premier Michael Dunkley this morning [May 30] extended his support and appreciation to all those participating in the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s Relay For Life.
And Premier Dunkley, whose wife Pamela is taking part in the event, will attend the National Sports Centre later today to personally thank the hundreds of people who have been volunteering and walking since yesterday to raise awareness and funds to support cancer programmes in Bermuda.
Relay For Life is a team based event which is held over a 24 hour period to celebrate and remember those who have been affected by cancer.
Premier Dunkley noted that members of his own family have been affected by cancer, and personally recalls the devastating toll that this terrible disease can have on a loved one and a family.
Premier Dunkley said, “I am very pleased to join my wife Pam and her team to support their efforts in what I believe is a tremendously worthy cause. I also want to take this opportunity to commend the hundreds of people who have been walking since last evening to celebrate and honour thier loved ones and friends who have been affected by cancer.”
Last year 124 teams signed up to take part in Bermuda’s first Relay For Life of event, raising almost $500,000, and this year over 130 teams have registered. The Relay For Life event kicked off last evening and concludes later today at 6.30pm.
