“Crossfit” Soca Riddim Compilation Released

Following the successful release of the titular single Crossfit by Rowdy Piper, Derek G. Simmons of Devils Isles Entertainment has launched the “Crossfit Riddim Compilation”. The compilation also features tracks from E-levelz and JIV.

A spokesperson said, “In soca and reggae music, the instrumental accompaniment to a song, known as a riddim, is often voiced by many different artists. Producer Derek G. Simmons composed the “Crossfit Riddim” and invited several Bermudian talents to tackle the song with their unique style and flair, creating the first Bermudian soca riddim compilation. ”

Derek explains, “I think that Bermudian artists should embrace the same musical elements that we support in our listening choices. Bermudians should not be limited to performing only certain genres because of regional stigmas. It is exciting to create a soca project that features a uniquely local sound. In this release, I am including the instrumental so that other artists can showcase their talents on the Crossfit Riddim.”

The spokesperson continued, “Rowdy Piper’s lead single Crossfit is an energetic dance anthem that has inspired a round of viral videos of workouts and dances on Instagram. E-levelz uses the bouncing riddim to nostalgically celebrate the fun of carnival weekend on his track, Carnival. E-levelz rose to local dancehall notoriety after beginning as a backup dancer and then moving to the front of the stage as a performer.

“He has recorded and released numerous songs and videos with Near Future Records. JIV entered Bermuda’s music scene with a unique R&B soul. He traveled with The Chewstick Foundation on their 2011 Chewronto Tour to Toronto, Canada and recently opened for reggae star Kranium. JIV channels his signature ladies-man style, vocally syncopating with the riddim in his release Don’t Run from Wuk.

“The album artwork was designed by Bermudian graphic artist Kyle Ball, and each of the songs were recorded and mixed at Near Future Records by Shane Woodley.”
