Chewstick To Bring Live Music On Friday Nights
As an added feature to the Uncover the Arts programme, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs said they are partnering with The Chewstick Foundation to stage entertainment featuring local musicians every Friday night in December at Chewstick’s new location at 81 Front Street in Hamilton.
“Taking centre stage is well-known local band, The Unit. The event is open to the public and admission is free,” the Department said.
“The Unit features Bermuda’s finest professional musicians – Lionel Edwards [Saxophone and Vocals], Andwele Simons [Drums], Rick Hawke [Guitar and Vocals] and John Lee [Bass and Vocals].
“The Unit covers all styles of music including Rock, Reggae, Soca, Latin, Jazz, Blues, Pop and R&B. They offer a repertoire of literally thousands of songs.
“The band also has the distinction of holding the title of ‘Best Jazz Band’ in Bermuda and represented the country in the 25th annual Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba in 2009.”
Director of Community and Cultural Affairs, Heather Whalen said, “We are pleased to partner with Chewstick to bring live entertainment to Hamilton on Friday nights during this festive season.
“We hope Bermudians young and old will venture in and hear the band while out doing their holiday shopping. The atmosphere will definitely cater to everyone.”
The Unit will perform on Friday, December 4, 11 and 18 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs at 292-1681.
