De-Silva Andrade & Wilson To Compete In China
The Bermuda Paralympic Association has announced that Yushae De-Silva Andrade and Steve Wilson will be travelling to Beijing, China to compete in the Boccia Individual World Championships, to be held from March 21 to March 25.
137 elite athletes from 31 nations will be competing in Beijing, marking the final opportunity for athletes to gain valuable world ranking points ahead of this summer’s Paralympics in Rio.
Both De-Silva Andrade and Wilson have been competing internationally for four years and have been steadily climbing the world rankings. Desilva Andrade is currently ranked 29th in the BC2 division and Wilson is ranked 32nd in the BC4 division.
Both players are hoping for good performances in China to propel them further up the world rankings and to give them a chance to qualify for Rio.
Bermuda Boccia Coach Troy Farnsworth said, “It’s very exciting to have two players from Bermuda in the World Championships. Both Steve’s and Yushae’s performances have consistently improved over time and they have proven they can compete with the world’s best.
“The preparation has been great, with both players training hard and they are looking forward to the challenge. I know they will represent Bermuda with pride”
