Minister Attends CARICOM Opening Ceremony
Minister of Home Affairs Alexa Lightbourne attended the 50th Caribbean Community [CARICOM] Opening Ceremony in St. Kitts and Nevis.
A Government spokesperson said, “On February 24, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne JP, MP, represented Bermuda at the 50th Caribbean Community [CARICOM] Opening Ceremony held in St. Kitts and Nevis, marking a significant milestone in the regional body’s history.
“Minister Lightbourne participated in official commemorative events alongside regional leaders, ministers, and delegates, underscoring Bermuda’s continued engagement with CARICOM and its commitment to strengthening cooperation across the Caribbean.
“The ceremony featured remarks from the Outgoing Chair, Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, and a keynote address from the Incoming Chair, The Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, alongside other distinguished regional leaders. The programme set a clear and purposeful tone for the deliberations ahead under the theme: Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM.
“A vibrant cultural showcase highlighted the richness, diversity, and enduring spirit of the Caribbean Community, reinforcing the shared heritage that unites member states.”
Minister Lightbourne said, “CARICOM’s 50th Regular Meeting is a powerful reminder of the value of regional unity and collaboration. Bermuda is very proud to stand with our Caribbean partners as we reflect on the progress made over five decades and work together to address the shared challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
The spokesperson said, “The 50th Heads of Government meeting is taking place from February 24 – 27, 2026.
“Discussions this week for CARICOM members are focused on critical issues including regional security, climate resilience, economic development, trade and investment, health cooperation, and the advancement of functional cooperation across the Community.”






why? This is very concerning as this corrupt govt is clearly moving us towards being part of caricom which we clearly do not want. stop this nonsense
The PLP hates everything British. This move to CARICOM cannot come as a surprise to any Bermudian.
Agreed. We need to make sure it doesnt happen.
Why? Because the minister needs an excuse to show off a new pantsuit and pair of glasses like she does in every other boondoggle.
Outside of that, it’s unclear why she’s there, aside from wasting taxpayer money.
