Survey: Satisfaction With Govt Increases To 69%

May 10, 2018

According to a recent survey, satisfaction with the Government led by Premier David Burt is on the rise, with 69% of Bermuda residents expressing approval, with satisfaction growing among both black and white residents.

69% of residents expressing satisfaction is an increase of 14 points since December 2017; with approval among white residents now at 54%, which is up 22 points since December, and the 84% among black residents is an increase of 13 points.

In releasing the results, a Total Marketing spokesperson said, “Satisfaction with the Government led by Premier David Burt is on the rise, with 69% of Bermuda residents now expressing approval. Marking a change from historic results, satisfaction has grown among both black and white residents.

“According to the latest Bermuda Omnibus Survey conducted by Total Research Associates Limited [TRA], satisfaction with the performance of the Government led by Premier David Burt has risen substantially this quarter.

“The survey shows that 69% of residents are now expressing satisfaction, an increase of 14 points since December 2017. Meanwhile, 21% of residents are dissatisfied.”

Government Performance Bermuda May 2018

“This is the first increase recorded by the Bermuda Omnibus Survey since the Government came to power in 2017.

“Most notably, both black and white residents express growing satisfaction, with approval among white residents now at 54%, which is up 22 points since December, and up 13 points to 84% among black residents.

“The rising approval among white residents is a turnaround from the second half of 2017, when satisfaction among this group plummeted from 94% to 32% within months of the Progressive Labour Party taking office,” Total said, explaining that the 94% approval was of the former OBA administration in June 2017, and it dropped to 32%, as measured in September 2017, which was after the election.

20 Years of Survey Results

“2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the Bermuda Omnibus Survey, which began tracking public opinion in Bermuda in 1998.

“That year, drug problems were considered the most important issue facing the Island [ranked the top issue by 17% of residents], followed by crime and violence [ranked highest by 13% – and by 65% in 2009]. The economy was considered the top issue by only 6% of residents in 1998, and unemployment by only 3%.

“Two decades later, concerns about drugs, crime and violence have dropped dramatically [crime is considered the top issue by only 7% of residents today]. The economy is now seen as Bermuda’s most important issue [ranked highest today by 26%], while employment is second – with concerns around this issue on the rise [now ranked highest by 15%, up 6 points from Dec. 2017].

Most Important Issue Facing Bermuda

“The latest results are part of TRA’s Bermuda Omnibus, a syndicated quarterly survey of public opinion in Bermuda, and are based on a telephone sample of 400 adults [18 years of age or older], conducted from April 4th to April 12th, 2018.

“Overall results accurate to within ± 4.9 percentage points, in 19 out of 20 samples.”

    WOW! so very proud!

    • Um no says:

Lol satisfied because PLP aink done sh%t

      • Mark says:

Satisfied bc they have kept doing what the oba was doing. If it takes the plp in power to do the exact same things as the oba but make it palatable to the numpties, so be it.

        • Vortex says:

Er, apart from reversing gay marriage which is despicable and backward.

          What has he done yet?

          I don’t see any difference.

          • nerema says:

new GP cars. they got those almost instantly. Obviously that was a top priority.

      • Bermy says:

Satisfaction does not equal good performance. If you ask the people from Haiti, Zimbabwe, Myanmar and North Korea many would say they are satisfied with government despite their countries not doing well in general.

The PLP has successfully mastered the art of passivizing a majority of the island’s population into believing that skin colour and being a member of their party is all that is needed to a “good and decent” leader.

        • Student says:

People in those countries would be satisfied because that is all they expect from a government.

Most of the people in these countries are not satisfied to with their government and to compare Bermuda to those countries is extremely crazy.

        • Double S says:

          Very, very true.

    • Onion says:

They have just continued OBA policies but stopped lying about them.

The PLP has become the UPB.

  2. Government Employee says:

Sad but also true many Civil Servants disliked working under the OBA Government. They showed no respect for the workers and as a result the staff lack the ambition to perform at their very best for the past Government. Hopefully the new OBA will learn from their past mistakes.

    • wahoo says:

Maybe the civil servants did not like the OBA because it was not the plp and perhaps they should strive to EARN respect instead of demanding it as some sort of right. OBA made hard decisions based on a desire to turn our economy around and it was working along comes plp bent on getting control by any means possible and promising the moon and people bought it hook line and sinker.

On occasion I get good vibes from Mr. Burt but the party and supporters in general make it quite clear that they are a black party and do little to encourage white participation.

      • REAL TALK says:

What’s quite clear is that the OBA is a white party and only try to find black “surrogates” to help win votes.

Now that doesn’t work anymore!!!!! 24 to 12

        • Toodle-oo says:

Regretfully, for people like you , any party that is not the PLP will always be viewed as a ‘white party’ or the UBP under a different name. Even if they do not have a single white MP.

        • Mark says:

Wow. Your views are so backwards and outdated. Thats the problem with both parties…and you.

        • Anbu says:

White party with a makority black make up.
Gotcha. Again what has your precious plp actually done for anyone but themselves? Besides do everything the oba was gonna do?

        • James says:

Hush don’t say things like that specially when we all know it’s the truth. It’s the one dirty secret they try to hide and their feelings get hurt when people recognize that was always a problem in the UBP I mean OBA.

        • wahoo says:

Please explain what you mean by “surrogate”.

    • Nana says:

If the supervisors in the Government departments did their jobs properly under any ruling party, things would be very different in Bermuda.

      • What? says:

        Correct!

      • Tina B says:

All this in house fighting the PLP get over it and do what they are put there to do by the ruling of the people. Governing and running Bermuda properly. Everyone is feed up with both parties. PLP also needs to stop lying to the people and stop riding the coat tails of other parties plans. I want to see real results on how the ruling party is going to put Bermuda back on the map. Get us out of debt that you put us in. Improve elderly care, education improvements, train people for better jobs shall i go on.

    • Toodle-oo says:

The OBA government consisted of 19 MPs/ministers. How many of them came into daily contact with 4000 people ? (Civil Servants/gov’t workers)
Probably less than 5% so don’t give us that cr@p . You can’t stand working under anyone except the PLP despite the fact that they bankrupted us and tripled your cost of living.

    • To Government Employee:
      I do not think so.
They will change their label, but the baseline of their philosophy WILL ALWAYS BE THE SAME…anti black!!
Very sad,but DO ALWAYS look at their picture realistically!!
NEVER be DUPED OR SWAYED BY THEIR MEANINGLESS ADS!!

    • Kevin says:

that’s why the bus cancellations ended and trash pick up is normal
Get real who are trying to convince ..must be yourself the plp haven’t done anything of merit to date …only if you are looking through rose glasses do you see roses
We are in trouble …wake up
      I didn’t vote for them

    • Beverley J C says:

Go to work for the Civil Service. It is the best job in the world. No matter the Government, it is always so reassuring to know how efficient and well managed our civil/public service sector is. In fact, I can’t think of one instance when an employee has been fired for poor performance. You can even be forgiven for giving away almost a Million $ of the taxpayers money or crash a ferry or bus. Oh, wait, actually, there was recently an attempt to fire someone, but it didn’t work. Want guaranteed, long term employment? go to work for the CS.

      • nerema says:

I guess it must be because they are all 100% fantastic at their jobs.
Much better than in the real world, where incompetent or people or lazy people lose their jobs once in a while. Public employees are all so fantastic that none of them ever faces that possibility. guaranteed employment for life, 70 days sick leave, 6 weeks vacation, index-linked pension.
        paid for by us idiots.

    • Onion says:

They expected them to do their job.

Government services are back to under-performing and I’ve seen a huge increase in the amount of time it takes to get things done vs. a year ago.

The OBA saved the Civil Servant’s pensions and saved them from massive layoffs. If the PLP don’t keep things turned around financially then you won’t be able to blame anyone but yourself.

  3. Smh says:

Can we see a chart of the overall satisfaction statistics for the last 3 governments or so?

  4. shàke my h3ad says:

Does that survey include or distiguish between property owners and tenants, would be nice to know how property owners whom arebermudians also feel about the economy….just a thought

  5. cpm says:

Government offices should not be listening to the daily show as this affects customer treatment
Try the Post Office, staff dealing with you while they are listening to that show
Who are the survey company ? and how many people do they interview to get a sample?

  6. Question says:

Satisfied with no new jobs. I guess they like poverty.

  7. Other races live hereon this island.
Why must the statistics ALWAYS be n BLACK or WHITE???
    SENSELESS, ACTUALLY!!
Fillipinos are here, Indians are here.

    • SMH says:

“Why must the statistics ALWAYS be n BLACK or WHITE???”

Because YOU and the plp constantly bring race into every topic.
It’s YOU who doesn’t have anything else to talk about. YOU need to grow up and move on.

    • Peace says:

      They are black too. Goodnight.

  8. Hair says:

OH please, I so tired of the black and white thing! We are not playing dominos. Lets ALL unite.

  9. cpm says:

    Utopia
    No bus cancellations
Once a week trash pick up [anyone tried to get to Tynes Bay recently]?
The Mold in schools has disappeared
What are we going to have a march about?

  10. Interesing says:

once again we the people are unable to come together/ spewing whatever comes to mind (i cannot say ) it is without thought……. the government are at odds / the people are at odds / once we can let go of the hate/ come together as a people / we shall always have this confrontation of discussion. Ending up only in the circle that we are unable to see. For once LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, give it a try / once we learn how to forgive , we as a people / country will rermain in this interesting state WE continue to put ourselves in………………….

  11. PANGAEA says:

Polititions should have a higher scolastic achievement than what we are getting as some of them can not read or write or even perform calculaction with out the aid of a device.

However ,we are expected to be highly skilled to work in any Government departments.

    • One Big Easter Lily says:

      Scholastic…
      Cannot…
      Without…

      • Toodle-oo says:

If you’re going to try to be clever you should also know not to miss ‘Politicians’

  12. One Big Easter Lily says:

I’m white, I approve and I voted PLP.

  13. Bee Keeper says:

Deplorables! How can anyone be satisfied with a Government that is purposefully discriminatory against non-blacks and non-heterosexuals? What century are we in again? This party should be condemned by the people of this country on principal.

  14. aceboy says:

Things are going great! The once a week trash collection is amazing. Someone even stole my trash can yesterday. Great times we are living in!

  15. One Who Escaped says:

Shocked an appalled that the survey is focused on black and white. How incredibly and unabashedly racist! Racism, homophobia, rights violations, Bermuda is a little bubble set apart in time and space! So very sad.

    • So Tired says:

      They say “it’s another world”

  16. Realist says:

I’m curious about to who did the survey and who did they poll.

    • Toodle-oo says:

My guess is it was a group with short memories who are easily pleased (or fooled)

  17. Puma says:

No buses…no trash pick up….trying to force purchase of plastic bins with lids. (why…they throw them on the ground and it stinks cause you don’t pick it up as you should) and it’s the same money we paid for two day pick up!…you want recycling but you don’t pick up trash.
You talk too much rubbish but you don’t pick it up…clean the trash up…your too dirty a govt for my liking.

  18. Puma says:

I want a refund on my taxes for trash pick up and public transportation!!!!!!
