Youth Library Opens STEAM & Sensory Room
The Bermuda National Library has acquired new materials to open up the auditorium space at the Youth Library as a Sensory and STEAM Learning room.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda National Library [BNL] is pleased to announce the acquisition of new materials to open up the auditorium space at the Youth Library as a Sensory and STEAM Learning room.
“The Youth Library aims to develop the whole child and to support life-long learning. Therefore, we are always looking for innovative and creative ways to stimulate learning.
“Children learn in many different ways, so it is essential to have a variety of materials and experiences that children can use to learn. The sensory options that will be made available in the room will allow children to engage their senses to improve concentration and learning. The equipment and programming will be appropriate for different ages and learning styles.
“The Youth Library will be offering opportunities for children to participate in S.T.E.A.M. [Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics] Learning. STEAM labs will be held on a regular basis to give children access points for both self-guided and guided student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.
“As children are now born into a technology driven world, it is imperative that they are given opportunities at a young age to be exposed to STEAM learning that will allow them to become active participants in this ever-changing world.
“BNL –Youth Library extends thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Richard and Yemi Oduntan whose generous donation has made these educational opportunities available to the children of Bermuda. We encourage parents to take advantage of the Sensory/ STEAM room as well as all the many other services that the Library has to offer.”
