Bermudian Featured In Research Journal
Bermudian physicist Chad Nelmes is earning recognition after publishing a peer-reviewed paper in Physica Scripta – a respected international journal focused on theoretical and experimental physics.
The 29-year-old is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of York in England, where his research is dedicated to advancing quantum technologies – an emerging field with the potential to transform computing, communication, and data security.
Mr Nelmes began his academic journey in Bermuda, attending Mount Saint Agnes Academy, Warwick Academy, Learning Express Academy, and Bermuda College.
He moved to the UK in 2015 to further his studies, completing degrees at Queen’s University Belfast and Lancaster University before attending the University of York for his doctoral research.
“The focus of my research throughout my PhD, and that of the broader quantum physics community in this field, is to deepen our understanding of the strange and fascinating behaviour of quantum particles and explore how these phenomena might be harnessed to power the technologies of the future!” Mr Nelmes told Bernews.
“This is a relatively new but incredibly exciting, branch of physics known as ‘Quantum Engineering.’”
“I believe this current milestone not only showcases Bermuda’s presence in global scientific research but also highlights the role of young Bermudian talent in shaping future technological innovation,” he added.
