Friends Of Hospice Student Lip Sync Contest
The Friends of Hospice announced that they are launching a student lip sync competition to raise funds, with students asked to submit 2 minute videos of themselves lip syncing to their favorite song.
A spokesperson said, “Friends of Hospice, the charity supporting Agape House, Bermuda’s only hospice, today announced that they are launching a student lip sync competition to raise funds. Virtual fundraising is rapidly becoming the new norm and this local charity is wasting no time in jumping on that global bandwagon.
“Local students are being asked to submit 2 minute videos of themselves lip syncing to their favorite song and are encouraged to select genres reflective of their musical tastes and social beliefs. There are three age categories 7 and under, 8 – 12 years, and 13-18 years old, with prizes being awarded in the respective categories. Video submissions are due in by 5 pm on May 2nd to mark the completion of the current Shelter in Place order.
“Student submissions will be uploaded on May 3, 2020 and public voting will be open through May 31, 2020. The winners will be selected based on the number of votes they accumulate during the voting period. Voters will be required to make a $5.00 donation for each vote registered.
Jennifer Mahoney, Executive Director of Friends of Hospice told us, “Covid-19 is forcing businesses and charities alike to rethink how we conduct our daily operations. Fundraising is always challenging, but recent developments have added an additional level of complexity for all charities. Unlike some of the other charities, we don’t have a source of recurring revenue such as memberships, paid services, and other revenue generators such as thrift shops, which makes it even more challenging for us.
“We were looking for ways to raise funds while engaging the community and felt this would be a great outlet for students during this stressful time. It’s a way for them to contribute in a meaningful way and earn community service hours, which is something that may be challenging for them in the immediate future. After reaching out to the schools and asked they support the initiative by distributing promotional flyers and the response has been extremely positive.
“We are hoping to launch a second segment which features local politicians, business leaders, and some of Bermuda’s favourite faces shortly after the student competition has concluded.”
“Parents of participating students will be required to submit a media release form before entries can be uploaded to ensure they have been vetted by them and contain age appropriate content. Initially, the charity considered providing a selection of songs to be used, but felt that is was best to leave this decision up to the parents of participating students.
Ms. Mahoney added, “Friends of Hospice cannot provide its programmes and services without the generous support of the community and we sincerely appreciate your support.”
