Videos: Humpback Whales in Bermuda
After three years of research and filming, the Humpback Whale Research and Film Project premiered the one-hour documentary “Where the Whales Sing” on March 11.
Tickets to the first two showings at the Bermuda International Film Festival [BIFF] sold out, however BIFF has added a third showing at BUEI on Sun March 21st at 1.00 pm. Tickets are $15.50 and are available through Bdatix.com.
The videos below not part of the film per se, but are part of the Humpback Whale Film & Research Project Bermuda, which was started in 2007 by Andrew Stevenson to study the humpbacks as they migrate by Bermuda. All videos below were filmed by Mr. Stevenson, who filmed and produced ‘Where the Whales Sing .’
Bermuda is a ‘resting place’ for whales in their migration route, with whale watching on South Shore being a popular pastime in the spring.
The video below was filmed in April 2007 in Bermuda waters, this whale is a lot closer to the cameraman than it appears, not even two feet away.

This video was taken fifteen miles off Bermuda, and shows a fifty foot male humpback whale seemingly intensely interested in the cameraman. He repeatedly swam under him and remained motionless about a foot or so underneath.

This was filmed fifteen miles offshore Bermuda when a humpback whale swam under the cameraman. It was the beginning of a two hour close encounter that for the most part was very peaceful until another whale kept trying to get close as well. It was only when another boat started circling the camera crew that the whale finally finally left.

I watched two of those videos and really liked it. The haunting, resonating music consists of a series of low frequency moans, whistles, and rumblings which may be repeated dozens of times over several hours.
