Drug Seizures: Street, Overseas, Entry
From Jan 1 – March 31 2010, an estimated 35kg [77lbs] of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of $1,726,820 were seized by the Bermuda Police.
Of that amount, approximately $743,735 was seized overseas in joint operations involving agencies including US Customs and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration [DEA], meaning that the police operating locally seized approximately $983,085
Approximately 91% of drug ‘busts’ were at local street level, with 7.5% of the ‘busts’ at Bermuda’s ports of entry, and generally involved larger amounts and mostly of cannabis. The breakdown is 181 street, 15 ports and 3 overseas.
