Car Baby Dad: Drunk People Offering Advice
Ian Thompson gave an interview today to the UK press saying it was amazing but terrifying to “deliver your son on the back seat on Bermuda’s busiest street on a Saturday evening while people spilling out of the bars offered advice“, going on to say “passers-by were unbelievably helpful, but mostly drunk“.
Mr Thompson and his wife Susie were on the way back to the hospital last month when baby Alexander decided to arrive in the back of their silver Peugeot.
Mrs Thompson started having contractions at about 6pm on Saturday, April 10, and headed off to the hospital at about 1am on Sunday, where she was advised to go home. She started having strong contractions which lead her to return to the hospital.
Mr Thompson was driving when his wife suddenly told him to pull over. He said that it was only about 10 seconds from the time he stopped the car to the baby was born.
On the subjects of crowds and drunken helpers he said:
It was a bit of a panic on Front Street – because it was 3am and the bars and clubs had just emptied, it was packed with people and police, so within seconds there was a pretty big crowd. The passers-by were unbelievably helpful, but mostly drunk, so it wasn’t really the sort of help we needed.
