Premier In Washington: Meets With US Officials
Premier Dr. Ewart Brown commenced a whirlwind series of meetings in the US Capitol. With meetings beginning at the Bermuda Government’s Office in Washington DC, through sessions at the White House and the Pentagon, the Premier and his team hit the ground running with various powerbrokers in the US Government.
The Premier said:
The purpose of this visit is to continue to make the case for Bermuda and to extend and deepen the relationship between our government and the United States of America. From continuing to inform stakeholders of the financial benefit that Bermuda’s international business brings to US citizens to seeking new ways to assist each other, these meetings have been very productive. We look forward to a positive response when we meet with key Members of Congress tomorrow.
Accompanied by Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Paula Cox, Cabinet Secretary Marc Telemaque and Finance Secretary Donald Scott, the Premier’s schedule began with a morning meeting at the Bermuda Government’s Washington Office. The Premier says the meeting produced positive results and an announcement will be made shortly regarding the details. This meeting was followed by a session at the White House with the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan.

The Department of Treasury and a meeting with Assistant Treasury Secretary for Terrorist Financing David Cohen was the next stop, followed by a meeting at the Pentagon with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Environment) Roger Natsuhara.
Premier Brown will be attending a reception hosted by the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, with meetings on Capital Hill with members of Congress next on the schedule.
This is all well and good. Just more photo ops. He has Ministers and Cabinet Secretaries that can do just as good a job.
The man is never in Bermuda unless some high profile person is comming.
He is yet to be seen walking the streets of Hamilton, back of town, St. Monicas et al.
This should be one of his top priorites but oops I just contradicted myself …right. Thats what he has Ministers and other Government heads for.
It’s all about him and this too shall come to pass.
Brown is a master of arranging “photo ops”, and we can expect many more before he finally leaves the stage! Unfortunately, despite many promises, none of the persons in his huge collection of photographs have been able to clean up the mess left by the Americans at the former US Naval Station.
What mess. The place is thriving. Housing, stores, cinema’s, beaches, trails.
